Sistemas de exploração florestal na região tropical úmida: o caso da Amazônia brasileira. Repositório Alice
COSTA FILHO, P. P.; FERREIRA, C. A. P..

Effects of clove oil on the stress response of matrinxã (Brycon cephalus) subjected to transport Acta Amazonica
Inoue,Luís Antônio Kioshi Aoki; Afonso,Luís Orlando B.; Iwama,George K.; Moraes,Gilberto.
Fish transport is one of the most stressful procedures in aquaculture facilities. The present work evaluated the stress response of matrinxã to transportation procedures, and the use of clove oil as an alternative to reduce the stress response to transport in matrinxã (Brycon cephalus). Clove oil solutions were tested in concentrations of 0, 1, 5 and 10 mg/L during matrinxã transportation in plastic bags, supplied with water and oxygen as the usual field procedures in Brazil. Clove oil reduced some of the physiological stress responses (plasma cortisol, glucose and ions) that we measured. The high energetic cost to matrinxã cope with the transport stress was clear by the decrease of liver glycogen after transport. Our results suggest that clove oil (5...

Sodium chloride added to transport water and physiological responses of Matrinxã Brycon amazonicus (Teleost: Characidae) Acta Amazonica
Urbinati,Elisabeth Criscuolo; Carneiro,Paulo César Falanghe.
The addition of salt to the water has been used to mitigate stress and improve survival in fishes. This study investigated the effects of sodium chloride (0.0, 1.0, 3.0 and 6.0 g/l) on levels of plasma cortisol, glucose, tryacilglycerol, total protein, hematocrit, hemoglobin, erythrocyte number, liver glycogen and lipid, and muscle lipid in adult matrinxã(Brycon amazonicum) after a 4-h transport and during a 96-h recovery period. Fish were sampled before and after transport, and 24 and 96 h of the recovery period. Plasma cortisol was higher than initial condition immediately after transportation, except in fish transported in 3.0 and 6.0 g/l of salt. A similar pattern was observed for blood glucose but fish transported in water with 0.0, 1.0 and 3.0 g/l of...

Evaluation of the Technical and Economical Effects of the Using of Machinery System for Processing of Straw for Energy Purposes CIGR Journal
Nozdrovicky, Ladislav.
In conditions of the agriculture in Slovak republic the straw, obtained as a by-product from cereals cropping systems, has a growing potential to be used as an important renewable energy source. This trend is fully consistent with the energy policy of the European Union, which aims to reduce the negative environmental impacts of fossil fuel use. The aim of the presented paper was to evaluate technical and economic effects of the using of the system for processing of straw including straw baling, transport and handling of the straw bales. During the years 2010-2012 the field experiments have been conducted in conditions of the large-scale farm (2770 ha of arable land). For the straw baling, transport and handling of the straw bales there is used a machinery...

Abundance and instantaneous transport of Petrolisthes armatus (Gibbes, 1850) planktonic larvae in the Catuama inlet, Northeast Brazil Anais da ABC (AABC)
Melo Júnior,Mauro de; Schwamborn,Ralf; Neumann-Leitão,Sigrid; Paranaguá,Maryse N..
The influence of tidal and diel changes on the exchange of Petrolisthes armatus planktonic larvae was studied at the Catuama inlet, which represents an intermediate system of marine and estuarine environments in the Northeast Brazil. To characterize the larval abundance and vertical distribution, samplings were carried out in August 2001 at neap tide and 3 stations, with 3 hours interval over 24 hours. Samples were taken at three or two depths at each station, with a plankton pump coupled to a 300 µm mesh size net. Petrolisthes armatus zoea I and II showed a mean of 26.3 ± 83.6 and 12 ± 38.8 ind m-3, respectively. During flood tides, the larvae were more concentrated in the midwater and surface, which avoided the transport to internal regions. In contrast,...

Nascimento,A.L.T.O.; Verjovski-Almeida,S.; Van Sluys,M.A.; Monteiro-Vitorello,C.B.; Camargo,L.E.A.; Digiampietri,L.A.; Harstkeerl,R.A.; Ho,P.L.; Marques,M.V.; Oliveira,M.C.; Setubal,J.C.; Haake,D.A.; Martins,E.A.L..
We report novel features of the genome sequence of Leptospira interrogans serovar Copenhageni, a highly invasive spirochete. Leptospira species colonize a significant proportion of rodent populations worldwide and produce life-threatening infections in mammals. Genomic sequence analysis reveals the presence of a competent transport system with 13 families of genes encoding for major transporters including a three-member component efflux system compatible with the long-term survival of this organism. The leptospiral genome contains a broad array of genes encoding regulatory system, signal transduction and methyl-accepting chemotaxis proteins, reflecting the organism's ability to respond to diverse environmental stimuli. The identification of a complete set...

Transport and detoxification of manganese and copper in plants Braz. J. Plant Physiol.
Ducic,Tanja; Polle,Andrea.
Heavy metals like Mn and Cu, though essential for normal plant growth and development, can be toxic when present in excess in the environment. For normal plant growth maintenance of metal homeostasis is important. Excess uptake of redox active elements causes oxidative destruction. Thus, uptake, transport and distribution within the plant must be strongly controlled. Regulation includes precisely targeted transport from the macro-level of the tissue to the micro-level of the cell and organelles. Membrane transport systems play very important roles in metal trafficking. This review provides a broad overview of the long distance and cellular transport as well as detoxification and homeostasis mechanisms of Mn and Cu, which are essential micronutrients but...

Evaluation of temperatures in a refrigerated container for chilled and frozen food transport Ciênc. Tecnol. Aliment.
Pereira,Vítor de Freitas; Doria,Eduardo Castello Branco; Carvalho Júnior,Bento da Costa; Neves Filho,Lincoln de Camargo; Silveira Júnior,Vivaldo.
The objective of this work was to monitor the operational conditions of the transport of chilled and frozen foods during delivery within cities and to evaluate the impact of the door openings on the alteration of the internal temperature of the refrigerated environment. Several temperature and pressure sensors were used in a refrigerated container with two compartments and they were installed in the refrigeration system unit and on the internal and external surfaces of the container. After the monitoring tests, it was verified that door openings during deliveries resulted in a disturbance that raised the internal temperature of the refrigerated container above values recommended for adequate conservation of the products transported. Moreover, increasing...

Anesthetic induction and recovery time of Centropomus parallelus exposed to the essential oil of Aloysia triphylla Ciência Rural
Parodi,Thaylise Vey; Santos,Celina Alcoforado dos; Veronez,Alexandra; Gomes,Levy de Carvalho; Heinzmann,Berta Maria; Baldisserotto,Bernardo.
ABSTRACT: This study analyzed the effectiveness of the essential oil of Aloysia triphylla (EOA) as an anesthetic and stress reducing agent in the transport of fat snook ( Centropomus parallelus ). Juveniles were exposed to different concentrations of EOA (seawater-adapted: 25-300μL L-1; freshwater-adapted: 200μL L-1) to identify the anesthetic induction and recovery times. In an additional experiment, seawater-adapted fat snook were transported in plastic bags with 10 or 20μL L-1 EOA for 6 or 24h. The increased concentration of EOA proportionally decreased the time required for anesthesia induction. Mortality was 30 and 70% in fat snook transported with 10 and 20µL L-1, respectively, 24h after transport. The addition of 20µL L-1 EOA significantly reduced...

ABSTRACT: This research aimed to evaluate whether the essential oil of Aloysia triphylla (EOAT) used in vivo as a sedative in the water for transporting fish could increase the oxidative stability of silver catfish (Rhamdia quelen) fillets during frozen storage. The chemical composition of EOAT and of fillets from fish exposed to EOAT (0, 30 or 40µL L-1) were assessed. The pH and lipid oxidation parameters (conjugated dienes, CD; thiobarbituric acid-reactive-substances, TBARS) were evaluated in the fillets throughout the storage period (-18±2oC/17 months). The main compounds found in EOAT were α- and β-citral. Treatment with EOAT did not modify the proximate composition of the fillets, but 40µL L-1 EOAT reduced pH levels when compared to the control...

Glucose and other hexoses transporters in marine invertebrates: A mini review Electron. J. Biotechnol.
Martínez-Quintana,José Alfredo; Yepiz-Plascencia,Gloria.
Glucose and related hexoses are very important metabolic substrates. Their most important function is to provide quick fuel for most organisms in all three kingdoms because they are the first substrate for energy production in the form of ATP through glycolysis and the subsequent metabolic pathways. In this paper we review the current information about how glucose and related hexoses are transported across biological membranes to carry out their function either as a metabolic molecule or as energy store in marine invertebrate organisms. In these animals, there are two sugar transport systems that are mediated by the sodium/solute symporter family proteins (SGLT) and the major facilitative super-family proteins (GLUT). The most studied sugar transporters in...

A COMBINATION OF DISCRETE EVENT SIMULATION AND MULTI-CRITERIA ANALYSIS TO CONFIGURE SUGARCANE DROP AND HOOK DELIVERY SYSTEMS REA
Faria,Danilo A. F. de; Frazão,Márcia L. da S.; Vieira,José G. V.; Silva,João E. A. R. da; Lemos,Paula H..
ABSTRACT This article explores decision analysis regarding Drop and Hook (D&H) transportation operations at sugarcane mills. By means of a case study, a combination of a discrete event simulation model and multi-attribute utility theory was used to evaluate different configurations for sugarcane delivery systems using internal, external, or no D&H systems. A D&H strategy maximises truck utilisation, as semi-trailers can be handled independently of the traction unit of the trucks, which makes the transport system more agile. For internal D&H systems the semi-trailer detaching/attaching point is located inside the mill site while for external D&H systems it is located outside, before the trucks’ weighbridge. Each configuration requires...
