Consideration of the appropriate variation sources of the statistical model and their impacts on plant breeding Agronomy
Melo, Rita Carolina de; Coimbra, Jefferson Luís Meirelles; Trevisani, Nicole; Guidolin, Altamir Frederico; Kavalco, Sydney Antonio Frehner.
The present work has aimed to assess the consideration of the appropriate variation sources of the statistical model and their impacts on the conclusions plant breeding. The Value for Cultivation and Use test was conducted to assess three common locations (Lages, Ponte Serrada, and Canoinhas) and four non-common locations (Chapecó, Guatambu, Urussanga, and Campos Novos). The grain yields of six bean genotypes were evaluated in order to represent the imbalance between the common and non-common locations. The statistical analysis considered two situations: i) union of the location factors and cultivation years, with a single variation source called environment and ii) decomposition of the mean square values of the two factors, location and year. According to...

Best conditions for biodegradation of diesel oil by chemometric tools BJM
Kaczorek,Ewa; Bielicka-Daszkiewicz,Katarzyna; Héberger,Károly; Kemény,Sándor; Olszanowski,Andrzej; Voelkel,Adam.
Diesel oil biodegradation by different bacteria-yeast-rhamnolipids consortia was tested. Chromatographic analysis of post-biodegradation residue was completed with chemometric tools (ANOVA, and a novel ranking procedure based on the sum of ranking differences). These tools were used in the selection of the most effective systems. The best results of aliphatic fractions of diesel oil biodegradation were observed for a yeast consortia with Aeromonas hydrophila KR4. For these systems the positive effect of rhamnolipids on hydrocarbon biodegradation was observed. However, rhamnolipids addition did not always have a positive influence on the biodegradation process (e.g. in case of yeast consortia with Stenotrophomonas maltophila KR7). Moreover, particular...

Sampling for a bacteriological study of aquatic enrironments ArchiMer
Troussellier, M; Baleux, B; Andre, P.
Using water samples from several observation levels of a brackish lagoon, statistical solutions are offered for the sampling optimisation of bacteria viable counts. The variability between plate count is studied by the mean of the Taylor's power law. The sampling strategy optimisation, including several sources of variability, is realized by hierarchical analysis of variance and the estimation of the sampling cost of each source. This optimisation procedure results in a great increase of the relative efficiency of the sampling design and allow to obtain significant differences between the bacterial concentrations. The effect of the reduction of the total sampling effort on the precision of these average concentrations pointed out the scientific and...

Les chalutages experimentaux: Utilisation de la temperature et de la profondeur comme variables auxiliaires. ArchiMer
Chevalier, R.
Very often stratification of bottom-trawl surveys is done by using a stratified random sampling scheme. If a survey is directed towards a group of species, the sampling scheme has to be a compromise between these different interests. So the sampling scheme is not totally efficient for each of the species. The use of auxiliary variables, as depth or temperature, looks as if such supplementary informations could neither improve the efficiency of the estimators nor the subsequent analysis (analysis of covariance).

Estandarización del esfuerzo de pesca ejercido sobre el abadejo (Genypterus blacodes) en aguas Argentinas. Período 1986-1996. OceanDocs
Cordo, H.D..
If the fishing effort is properly standardized, the catch per unit of effort may be proportional to biomass (C/f=q x B(med)). A multiplicative factorial model was applied to the ling Genypterus blacodes catch and effort data by the Argentine bottom trawl fleet recorded between 1986 and 1996. The relative fishing power of the fleet strata was estimated and the effort standardized to obtain normalized CPUEs. Provided they were estimated in the same spatial and temporal situation, there were no differences between the normalized CPUE and the nominal CPUE because ling is caught mainly as by-catch in the Argentine hake fishery. A general picture of the spatial and temporal distribution of ling as reflected by the commercial fleet operations was also obtained.

Les analyses statistiques multivariées : application sur deux espèces de Soleidea des cotes Tunisiennes OceanDocs
Glid, A.; Mosbah, S.; Ghorbel, M.; Bradai, M.N..

Perrotta, R.G.; Lasta, C.A.; Aubone, A..
The data belong to the demersal fishery research cruise H-13/94. Stratification used for research surveys from the catches values was tested, both for the northern area, Argentine-Uruguayan Common Fishing Zone (AUCFZ) located between 34° and 39°S, and the southern area situated between 38°30' and 41°30'S (El Rincón, Buenos Aires Prov., Argentina). The variables considered were: croaker and striped weak fish densities and depth. Discriminant factor analysis indicates the formation of two and six strata for the southern and northern areas respectively. The adequate confidential limits of the estimated biomass for each strata obtained for different species, indicate that the criteria for stratification is satisfactory. The number of catches by strata was...

Risk and Uncertainty Analysis with Networks of Decisions AgEcon
Recke, Guido.
In this paper an applied approach for analysing economic problems under risk and uncertainty based on networks of decisions (NODs) will be discussed. It can be shown that network of decision analysis can help to understand complex decision problems under risk and uncertainty in single case situations. A variety of decision criteria like expectation values and a special ANOVA can be used to get better knowledge about prediction and controllability of the decision problems.

Methods of selecting common bean lines having high yield, early cycle and erect growth Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Jost,Evandro; Ribeiro,Nerinéia Dalfollo; Rosa,Daniele Piano; Possobom,Micheli Thaise Della Flora; Maziero,Sandra Maria.
Selection for grain yield, combined with phenological and morphological characteristics of agricultural interest, represents technological advances in the common bean. The objectives of this work were to estimate genetic parameters and the efficiency of both the Pedigree and Single-Seed Descent (SSD) methods for progression segregating populations in order to obtain common bean lines superior in grain yield, precocity and plant architecture. To do this, 136 inbred lines obtained using the Pedigree method, and 136 inbred lines obtained by SSD method were evaluated in a 17 x 17 simple lattice design, integrating the 272 inbred lines in the F7 generation and 17 cultivars as control. Estimates of moderate narrow sense heritability were obtained for grain...
