Trichomes and chemical composition of the volatile oil of Trichogonia cinerea (Gardner) R. M. King & H. Rob. (Eupatorieae, Asteraceae) Anais da ABC (AABC)
FERNANDES,YANNE S.; TRINDADE,LUMA M.P.; REZENDE,MARIA HELENA; PAULA,JOSÉ R.; GONÇALVES,LETÍCIA A..
Trichogonia cinerea is endemic to Brazil and occurs in areas of cerrado and campo rupestre. In this study, we characterized the glandular and non-glandular trichomes on the aerial parts of this species, determined the principal events in the development of the former, and identified the main constituents of the volatile oil produced in its aerial organs. Fully expanded leaves, internodes, florets, involucral bracts, and stem apices were used for the characterization of trichomes. Leaves, internodes, florets, and involucral bracts were examined by light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy, whereas stem apices were examined only by light microscopy. Branches in the reproductive phase were used for the extraction and determination of the composition...

Chemical Composition and Biological Activities of The Essential Oil And Anatomical Markers Of Lavandula Dentata L. Cultivated In Brazil BABT
Justus,Barbara; Almeida,Valter Paes de; Gonçalves,Melissa Marques; Assunção,Daniele Priscila da Silva Fardin de; Borsato,Debora Maria; Arana,Andres Fernando Montenegro; Maia,Beatriz Helena Lameiro Noronha Sales; Paula,Josiane de Fátima Padilha de; Budel,Jane Manfron; Farago,Paulo Vitor.
ABSTRACT Lavandula dentata, popularly known as lavender, is commonly used in traditional medicine for the treatment of digestive and inflammatory disorders. The objective of this study was to analyzed the chemical oil composition, antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of the essential oil and anatomical markers of the leaf and stem of L. dentata cultivated in South Brazil. Essential oil showed an antioxidant activity similar to rutin and gallic acid when analyzed by phosphomolybdenum method. However, by the free radical DPPH and ABTS methods, it showed a slight potential antioxidant. Essential oil presented 1,8-cineol (63%) as major component, antimicrobial activity against Gram-positive, Gram-negative bacteria strains and Candida albicans, by broth...

GC-MS analysis of Nigella sativa seeds and antimicrobial activity of its volatile oil BABT
Gerige,Saptha Jyothi; Gerige,Mahesh Kumar Yadav; Rao,Muralidhara; Ramanjaneyulu,.
The present study dealt with the hydro distillation of Nigella sativa seeds and GC-MS analysis. The total composition of the oil was 86.7%. The seed volatile oil was tested against 19 microbes (Gram positive, Gram negative and fungi), which showed that Gram negative bacteria Haemophilus influenza, Klebsiella pnemoniae, and Proteus vulgaris were highly sensitive against the antimicrobial agent, whereas the fungi such as Trichoderma vibriae,. Pencillium rubrum; and Dermatophyte: Trichophyton mentagrophytes; had no response at the 20µl concentration.

Oxygen introduction during extraction and the improvement of antioxidant activity of essential oils of basil, lemon and lemongrass Ciência Rural
Ferreira,Daniele de Freitas; Nora,Flávia Michelon Dalla; Lucas,Bruna Nichelle; Menezes,Cristiano Ragagnin de; Cichoski,Alexandre José; Giacomelli,Sandro Rogério; Wagner,Roger; Barin,Juliano Smanioto.
ABSTRACT: Essential oil extraction is commonly carried out by using the hydrodistillation method, which is described in official compendia of food quality control and medicinal plants. Despite the widespread use of this method, few studies have evaluated the effect of the atmosphere change during extraction on the composition and antioxidant activity of essentials oils. Therefore, a study of oxygen introduction influence during the extraction of essential oils from basil, lemongrass and lemon by hydrodistillation was performed. Total amount of oxygenated compounds (e.g., linalool, camphor, α-terpineol, neral, geranial, eugenol and α-muurolol) increased for all essential oils extracted under oxygen flow. Antioxidant activity evaluated by using the ORAC...
