Four new genera of soft corals (Coelenterata: Octocorallia), with notes on the classification of some established taxa Naturalis
Alderslade, P..
Four new genera, Rhytisma, Klyxum and Skamnarium (family Alcyoniidae) and Sansibia (family Xeniidae), are proposed to accommodate a number of species wrongly assigned to some established genera. A large number of the species concerned have been previously included in the genus Alcyonium, and remarks are made concerning the heterogenous nature of that genus. The reassignment of Parerythropodium hicksoni Utinomi, 1972, to Erythropodium, Alcyonium gracillimum Kükenthal, 1906, to Scleronephthya, and Clavularia hamra to Briareum is also discussed, and the existence of Funginus Tixier-Durivault, 1987, as a replacement name for Fungulus Tixier-Durivault, 1970, is highlighted.

A study of the Xeniidae (Octocorallia, Alcyonacea) collected on the "Tyro" expedition to the Seychelles with a description of a new genus and species Naturalis
Janes, M.P..
An examination of xeniid octocorals was carried out on specimens held in the National Museum of Natural History, Naturalis, Leiden, Netherlands. Samples collected during the Tyro expedition to the Seychelles Islands in the Western Indian Ocean were identified. Six species belong to the genera Cespitularia, Heteroxenia, and Ovabunda are described; five of these are new records for this location. Three new species belonging to the genera Anthelia, Cespitularia and Ovabunda are illustrated. In addition, a new genus belonging to the family Xeniidae is introduced accompanied by scanning electron micrographs of its sclerites. Gross morphology and the ultra-structure of the sclerites indicate there are some similarities in this new genus with Anthelia. However,...

Xeniidae (Cnidaria: Octocorallia) from the Red Sea, with the description of a new species Naturalis
Benayahu, Y..
Xenia verseveldti, a new species of the Xeniidae is described, based upon material from the coral reefs of the Sinai peninsula, Red Sea. Two other, closely related Xenia species are commented upon. The structure of Xenia sclerites is presented by scanning electron microscopy, indicating a unique structure of corpuscular aggregations. A systematic list of all Xeniidae recorded from the Red Sea, along with some new records, is presented.
