Zambia Horticultural Rapid Appraisal: Understanding the Domestic Value Chains of Fresh Fruits and Vegetables AgEcon
Hichaambwa, Munguzwe; Tschirley, David L..
The purpose of this paper is to begin generating the empirical information needed to launch a process of stakeholder consultation regarding the key challenges facing the country’s horticultural sector. The paper is based on a rapid appraisal of the sector meant to provide a broad overview; FSRP’s hope is that stakeholder input will help identify a more focused set of applied research dealing with specific issues. The paper proceeds as follows: the rest of this chapter presents the data and methods used in the research; chapter two uses national rural household survey data to characterize horticultural marketing patterns in the smallholder sector; chapter three presents results of the rapid appraisal, focusing on large scale farmers, “first sellers”...

Zambia's 2005 Maize Import and Marketing Experiences: Lessons and Implications AgEcon
Mwanaumo, Anthony; Jayne, Thomas S.; Zulu, Ballard; Shawa, Julius J.; Mbozi, Green; Haggblade, Steven; Nyembe, Misheck.
This paper shows how government actions can affect the performance of the maize marketing system and influence the severity of food crises. Examples from the 2005/06 marketing season are used to illustrate how Zambia’s food security situation can be improved through closer consultation, transparency and predictability between government and the private sector. The paper also identifies longer-run options for strengthening the ability of local and regional markets to ensure household and national food security in the face of maize production instability.

Zambia's Stop-And-Go Revolution: The Impact of Policies and Organizations on the Development and Spread of Maize Technology AgEcon
Howard, Julie A.; Mungoma, Catherine.
This paper explores how Zambia's policy and organizational environment has shaped the development, spread, and more recently, the disadoption of maize technology. It also traces the political motivations that drove the establishment of the policy and organizational framework supporting maize production and impeded the efficient operation of the parastatal-managed marketing system. Options facing Zambian policy makers for increasing food production under evolving political and economic conditions are discussed in the light of these experiences.

Zöldenergia Program a szociális feszültségek enyhítéséért AgEcon
Gergely, Sandor.
Magyarországon az 1990-es évektől kezdve az egyes régiók, kistérségek közötti fejlettségbeli különbségek növekedtek, a kormányzati intézkedések nem voltak képesek ezt ellensúlyozni. A 174 magyarországi kistérségből a 33 leghátrányosabb helyzetűben él a lakosság egytizede. Ezek elhelyezkedését belső és külső perifériális állapot jellemzi. Helyzetük javítását az általunk megalkotott szociális zöldenergia program szolgálhatná, melynek gazdasági és társadalmi hatásai főként a legkedvezőtlenebb helyzetű társadalmi csoportokat segíthetnék. Az általunk kidolgozott magyar zöldenergia program forgatókönyve három változatban tartalmazza a gazdasági, társadalmi jellemzőket, valamint ezek költségvetési hatását. Ezek lokális fejlesztő hatására az energiapiaci...

Zöldség- és gyümölcs-nagykereskedelem Hollandiában AgEcon
Jasso, Katalin.
Hollandiában is a piacot a fogyasztók igényei irányítják.

Zonal Origin of Dry Farming in Northern China AgEcon
Su, Haiyang.
Environmental changes in Pleistocene and the breeding of primitive agriculture in late Paleolithic Age are discussed. Natural environment in China has changed significantly since the Quaternary Period. Under the cold climatic conditions at late Pleistocene, most parts of northern China were not suitable for the growth of millet and other crops preferring warm surroundings. But some microlithic remains in warm zones of southeastern edge of northern China have entered the stage of gathering agriculture, which might become a part of agricultural original zones of millet agriculture. Environmental change and the emergence of dry farming in northern China at early Holocene are analyzed. Early Holocene (about 12 – 8 kaBP) is an unstable heating period. Millet...
