Lima,Tiago Barbalho; Padua,Ivan Martinez; Kobashigawa,Karina Kamachi; Aldrovani,Marcela; Chacaltana,Flor Diana Yocoay Claros; Santo,Paloma do Espírito; Vieira,Lorena Carla; Barros Sobrinho,Alexandre Augusto Franchi; Cunha Junior,Armando Silva; Laus,José Luiz.
ABSTRACT: This study examined the efficacy of an intravitreal dexamethasone-loaded device for the control of postoperative ocular inflammation in dogs following phacoemulsification. Twenty dogs with bilateral mature senile cataracts were prepared for surgery using routine protocols. A biodegradable poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) copolymer device was inserted through the pars plana into the vitreous chamber immediately before phacoemulsification (device group [DG], n=20). Following surgery, a conventional group (CG) received local and systemic steroids, mydriatics, and antibiotic therapy. The same treatment protocol was adopted in DG, except for steroids. All eyes were examined before surgery and at various times after phacoemulsification. Ultrasonography...

Effect of snake venom derived fibrin glue on the tendon healing in dogs: clinical and biomechanical study 80
Ferraro,G. C.; Moraes,J. R.; Shimano,A. C.; Pereira,G. T.; Moraes,F. R.; Bueno de Camargo,M. H..
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of snake venom derived fibrin glue on the strength oftendon healing in dogs. The deep digital flexor tendon of the 5th digit of 24 thoracic limbs was partially sectioned for adhesive application. On the 7th, 15th, and 30th postoperative day tendons segments were removed for the clinical and biomechanical study. Results indicated that 62.5% of the tendons showed stump retraction and 20.8% moderate to excessive adherence, which affected gliding. The biomechanical evaluation showed that, over time, tendon healing gained progressive resistance for maximum traction and permanent deformations with satisfactory results on the 15th day for rigidity and resilience compared to the other two studied periods. Snake...

Electrochemotherapy treatment of oral extramedullary plasmacytoma of the tongue: a retrospective study of three dogs 65
Cunha,Rúbia Monteiro de Castro; Lavalle,Gleidice Eunice; Caires,Carla Emanuela Tertuliano; Araújo,Roberto Baracat de.
ABSTRACT: Extramedullary plasmacytomas (EPs) are responsible for 2.5% of neoplasms in dogs. They are solitary, smooth, elevated, pink or red nodules, of 1 to 2cm in diameter. Cutaneous and oral extramedullary plasmacytomas in dogs are usually benign tumors, treated with local therapies. Prognosis is generally good. Recurrence and metastatic rates are low. Electrochemotherapy is a local treatment that combines chemotherapy and electroporation and shows objective responses of 70% to 94% with few local and systemic side effects. This scientific communication has the objective to report treatment of three canine patients with oral extramedullary plasmacytoma. Nodules were located on the tongue and patients were submitted to one or two electrochemotherapy...
