Regarding the real diversity of Glyptodontidae (Mammalia, Xenarthra) in the late Pliocene (Chapadmalalan Age/Stage) of Argentina 42
ZURITA,ALFREDO E.; TAGLIORETTI,MATÍAS; DE LOS REYES,MARTÍN; CUADRELLI,FRANCISCO; POIRE,DANIEL.
ABSTRACT A large diversity of Glyptodontidae has been proposed as characterizing the Chapadmalalan Age (Pliocene). Most of these taxa were recognized on the basis of partial dorsal carapaces and/or caudal tubes, whereas the main diagnostic characteristic is a particular morphology of the exposed surface of the osteoderms. From a biostratigraphic point of view some species are biostratigraphically important. The Upper Chapadmalalan is based on the Paraglyptodon chapadmalensis biozone. Both the re-evaluation of the type and referred materials and new significant findings from the Chapadmalal and El Polvorín Formations indicate that the diversity of Pliocene Glyptodontidae is more limited than previously supposed. The particular morphology of the exposed...

Andropogon × Paraguariensis, a new name for Andropogon × Velutinus (Poaceae, Andropogoneae) 66
Nagahama,Nicolás; Anton,Ana M; Hidalgo,María I; Norrmann,Guillermo A.
The new name Andropogon × paraguariensis Norrmann & Nagahama is proposed to replace the illegitimate name Andropogon × velutinus Norrmann & Nagahama, a natural hybrid from southern South America.

New distributional records for Chilean bryophyte and lichen flora 73
León,Carolina A; Oliván,Gisela; Pino-Bodas,Raquel.
Ten new distributional records to the Chilean bryo-lichenic flora are reported. Three species and a subspecies are new to the flora of the province of Chiloé, five species are new from the Los Lagos Region and one species is new to mainland Chile. The specimens were collected in peatlands (Sphagnum bogs) and swamp forests of Tepualia stipularis in Isla Grande de Chiloé (Chile) (41°- 43° S; 74°-73° W). Diagnostic characters, chemistry (only lichens), habitats preferences and distribution are provided. The national ranges of two species are expanded.

Late Holocene covariability of the southern westerlies and sea surface temperature in northern Chilean Patagonia 5
Bertrand, Sebastien; Hughen, Konrad; Sepulveda, Julio; Pantoja, Silvio.
The climate of Chilean Patagonia is strongly influenced by the southern westerlies, which control the amount and latitudinal distribution of precipitation in the southern Andes. In austral summer, the Southern Westerly Wind Belt (SWWB) is restricted to the high latitudes. It expands northward in winter, which results in a strong precipitation seasonality between similar to 35 and 45 degrees S. Here, we present a new precipitation seasonality proxy record from Quitralco fjord (46 degrees S), where relatively small latitudinal shifts of the SWWB result in large changes in precipitation seasonality. Our 1400 yr record is based on sedimentological and geochemical data obtained on a sediment core collected in front of a small river that drains the Patagonian...

The taxonomic status of Myotis levis levis and Myotis levis dinellii (Mammalia: Chiroptera: Vespertilionidae) 103
Miranda,João M. D.; Bernardi,Itiberê P.; Sponchiado,Jonas; Passos,Fernando C..
Investigating the Myotis levis complex is important for understanding the taxonomic status of the two subspecies currently recognized in it: Myotis levis levis (I. Geoffroy, 1824) and M. levis dinellii Thomas, 1902. Both M. levis levis and M. levis dinellii have been recently observed in sympatry in Argentina. This finding suggests that these populations might in fact correspond to distinct species rather than subspecies, as they have traditionally been designated. By using a multivariate morphometric approach, we demonstrate that M. l. levis has secondary sexual dimorphism in several measurements, with females being larger than males; sexual dimorphism was not detected in M. levis dinellii. However, we found morphometric differences between the two taxa....
