Økologiske kyllinger fylder under 1% af kyllingesalget, og samtidig er kyllinger en af de varegrupper, hvor det økologiske markedsandel er lavest. Den gennemsnitlige økologiske markedsandel er eksempelvis på 7%, og for enkelte varegruppers vedkommende er den mere end 25% (æg og mælk). Derudover er aspekter som dyrevelfærd, bæredygtighed og smag, hvor den økologiske kyllingeproduktion kan adskille sig markant fra den konventionelle produktion, vigtige elementer i forbrugernes valg af dagligvarer, og der synes såle-des at være et stort potentiale for at udvide markedsandelen af økologiske kyllinger. BACKGROUND: A sensory panel evaluated the sensory profile of breast meat from five broiler products: two conventional standard products (A and B) and three organic niche genotypes (I657, L40, K8) reared in an apple orchard. RESULTS: Twenty-two sensory attributes were evaluated, and 13 differed significantly between the products. The aromas ‘chicken’, ‘bouillon’ and ‘fat’ scored highest and the ‘iron/liver’ aroma lowest for the niche products. The meat was more ‘tender’, ‘short’ and ‘crumbly’, and less ‘hard’ and ‘stringy’ in the standard products than in one or more of the niche products. Product ‘I657’ was less ‘juicy’ than the rest. ‘I657’ and ‘L40’ were more ‘cohesive’ and tasted more ‘sourish’ and less of ‘sweet/maize’ than the standard products.... |

The focus of OASE has been to conceptualise the evolution of organic agriculture and its relation to the social surroundings. In the efforts to trace and analyse relations between principles related to the organic way, the project has focused on Denmark but has also t ried to integrate international dimensions. The current paper is thus the result of an investigation carried out about evolution and interpretation of organic principles in IFOAM and parts of its constituency. The first section of the paper provides an overview of the IFOAM organisational history while the second section presents perceptions of IFOAM members on Basic Organic Principles. |

In den letzten 3 Jahren wurden in Westfalen-Lippe Testessen mit Kartoffeln aus ökologischem Landbau systematisch nach der Ernte, im Winter und im Frühjahr durchgeführt, bisher insgesamt 22 Tests. Geprüft wurde die Ernte von 2 Untersuchungsflächen, von einem Sandboden und einem Lehmboden. 2003 waren es 18 Sorten, die sowohl vorgekeimt als auch nicht vorgekeimt angebaut worden waren. Beteiligt waren jeweils 6 – 15 Testpersonen. Neben verschiedenen Geschmackskriterien musste der Tester dabei ein Gesamturteil (Frage: Möchte ich die Knolle essen?) und dabei eine Benotung zwischen 1 (ja, möchte ich essen) und 5 (nein, möchte ich nicht essen) abgeben. This catalogue of ideas has been developed in a joint effort by six organisations (Caritas Kampala, Uganda Rural Development (URDT), Sulma Foods, Africa2000Network (A2N), National Organic and Organic Denmark) in the project ECOSAF in Uganda. The approach has been quite a lot like action research, and Development in practice. The focus of this project (2013-2015) was Farmer Family Learning Groups (FFLG) as a method for developing long-term food security through social capital building. At the time for weed control, either chemical or physical, the potential yield of the crop (and thus the potential size of the yield loss due to weeds) is very uncertain, as only a minor part of the growing season has passed and the time for the major yield formation is after the weed control. The aim of this study was to investigate four scenarios of using sensor-based reflectance, vegetation cover- and canopy structure measurements in the early growth stages to estimate the potential yield of four pure spring barley varieties and four variety mixtures of spring barley grown in competition with weeds under two different nutrient levels in two years. |

In addition to fertility problems mastitis also is a main animal health problem in organic dairy farms. A lot of therapeutics, mostly conventional, are used for this indication. The losses due to lower milk production, cure costs and replacement costs are enormous. Furthermore the regulations for organic farming rather favour complementary therapies than the use of antibiotics or other chemical-synthetic drugs. Consequently the non-antibiotic teat-sealer labelled as Orbeseal® could be a solution to improve the udder health in organic farming. |

The present study investigates the relationships between consumer categorization of organic versus non-organic food products, consumers' underlying perceptions of organic food, and their propensity to consume organic foods. A choice experiment is used to test these relations in a case study involving consumer preferences for attributes relating to milk. First and foremost, we find a strong link between how consumers categorize food and their organic profile. Second, we find that knowledge concerning a claim stating that milk from grazing cows is healthier, serves as a way to categorize consumers according to their organic profile.
