Vers le Pôle ArchiMer
Nansen, Fridtjof.

A new species of the genus Ichthyurus Naturalis
Gestro, R..
At the request of Mr. Ritsema I give here the description of a new Ichthyurus from Eastern Java, belonging to the collections of the Leyden Museum. The species of Ichthyurus at present known as inhabiting the island of Java are very few in number, and I have to thank Mr. Ritsema for entrusting me with the study of a very remarkable form of this highly interesting genus of Malacodermidae.

A new species of Microstylum (Diptera: Asilidae) Naturalis
Wulp, F.M. van der.
Through the kindness of Mr. R. Oberthür at Rennes, France, the Leyden Museum received not long ago a specimen of a gigantic Asilid, belonging to the genus Microstylum Macq. and of oriental origin. As I cannot find in the literature of Asiatic Asilids any description applicable to it, I have no doubt that the species, notwithstanding its large size, remained hitherto unknown. In publishing it here, I name it in honour of the eminent entomologist, to whom the Museum is indebted for this interesting present.

Orthragoriscus nasus Ranz. on the Dutch coast Naturalis
Reuvens, C.L..
19 November 1896 fishermen caught in the neighbourhood of Helder a large specimen of the moonfish, and brought it immediately to the Zoological station, where it arrived alive. The director, Dr. P. P. C. Hoek, addressed the fish to the Leyden Museum, and we received it next morning, 20 Nov., in the best, fresh condition. Examining the animal it proved to be Orthragoriscus nasus Ranz. It agrees entirely with the specimen from Callantsoog, described by Dr. van Lidth de Jeude in “Notes Leyd. Mus., Vol. XIV, p. 127, pl. 5” 1), though the dimensions are considerably greater.

A new species of the genus Aphanisticus (Coleoptera: Buprestidae) Naturalis
Ritsema Cz., C..
In 1889 I described (Notes Leyd. Mus. XI, p. 237) a Buprestid of the genus Aphanisticus the larva of which was found at Kagob (Tegal: West-Java) mining in the under surface of the leaves of sugar-cane. I named it after its discoverer Aphanisticus Krügeri. At the same time I gave in the »Nederlandsch Tijdschrift voor Entomologie” (vol. XXXIII, p. XXII) a short notice (with figures) about the larva and the mode of life of this insect. Now I am able to describe another species of the same genus, the larva of which is found in Eastern Java (Pasoeroean) likewise mining in the leaves of sugar-cane. A few specimens of this species, which will be described in this Note under the name of Aphanisticus consanguineus, are sent to me by Dr. L. Zehntner, who is intended...

On Anomalops palpebratus (Bodd.) Naturalis
Reuvens, C.L..
To the rare fishes in ichthyological collections belongs Anomalops palpebratus. In 1890 Douglas Ogilby described 1) two specimens, caught by Capt. Braithwaite near the New Hebrides, and now preserved in the Australian Museum at Sydney. The author adds, that these specimens »raise the number known to exist in various Museums to eight, and help to show the wide geographical range of this interesting fish.” The localities where it is found till now are: Menado (Bleeker, A. S. S. I. N. I, 1856, p. 42).

On the identity of Stoparola concreta with Siphia cyanea Naturalis
Büttikofer, J..
When revising the genus Siphia and allied genera in the Leyden Museum, I fell upon the fact that our typical males and female of Stoparola concreta (Müller) from the Highlands of Padang (Sumatra) are in striking contrast with the other species of the genus Stoparola, which on the whole is characterized by the sea-green general color, the triangular, flat shape of the bill, the short tarsi and the uniformity in color between male and female. Their strong resemblance with Siphia Everetti, which I brought home from Borneo, led me to the comparison with the description of Siphia cyanea from the mountains of Tenasserim and Perak, a very rare bird which is not represented in the Leyden Museum. This comparison absolutely convinced me that our Sumatran birds are...

On Coenochilus maurus, Fabr. (Coleoptera: Cetoniidae) Naturalis
Ritsema Cz., C..
Some time ago the Leyden Museum received from Mr. Jackson Demery, the Liberian correspondent of Dr. Büttikofer, a small consignment of beetles collected at Robertsport, Grand Cape Mount (Western Liberia). Among these beetles I found a certain number of specimens (males and females) of a Cetoniid which was not yet represented in previous consignments received from that country 1). This species proved to be Coenochilus maurus Fabr., of which a description with figures and synonymy 2) is given by Westwood in his splendid »Thesaurus Entomologicus Oxoniensis” (p. 34, pl. XI, figs. 5 and 5a). As, however, Westwood has derived the description from a single specimen (the Fabrician type) and the figure drawn from an other (Gory’s typical specimen) whereas I myself...

Ueber Camelonotus Fairm., Horonotus Burm., Neodipelicus Rits. und Palmerstonia Blackb Naturalis
Heller, K.M..
Burmeister sagt in...

Fairmaire, L..
Long. 22 mill.

On Macroma insignis Gestro (Coleoptera: Cetoniidae) Naturalis
Ritsema Cz., C..
In a small collection of oriental insects, handed to me for identification by Mr. H. Veen of Haarlem, was a specimen of a large black Macroma-species, captured by his brother, Mr. Ed. Veen, on Mount Pangolot in the district Groot Mandheling of the Tapanoeli Residency, West Sumatra. This specimen agreed admirably well with the description and figure of Macroma insignis Gestro (Ann. Mus. Civ. Genova, vol. XXX, p. 852; pl. 2, fig. 10), but as this species was described from a specimen from Burma (Mount Cariani, at an elevation of 1300 — 1400 meter above the level of the sea), I thought it of interest to examine, if possible, the type-specimen. I therefore wrote to Dr. Gestro, who, without delay, sent it to me.

Apogonia tuberculiventris, n. sp. from North Borneo Naturalis
Ritsema Cz., C..
A species of moderate size (measuring 10—11 mm. in length) which is easily recognizable by the two approximate tubercles on the middle of the first ventral segment. Its colour passes from ferruginous brown (immature specimens) to pitchy black with purple and green tinges on the upper side; the palpi and antennae are ferruginous. The sides of the sterna are covered with very fine and short whitish setae.

Etude synonymique sur le genre Chrysochroa Naturalis
Kerremans, Ch..
