| En 1918, pour la première fois, un chalutier boulonnais rapporta da hareng pris sur le fond dans les parages des Smalls à l'entrée sud de la mer d'Irlande. Son exemple fut suivi et bientôt le hareng de chalut vint concurrencer sur notre marché celui de filet. L'abondance des captures fut parfois telle que l'on put craindre un moment pour l'avenir du métier dérivant; mais, aux heures de crise l'industrie harenguière trouva son salut dans les apports des chalutiers. C'est ainsi qu'en 1921, alors que le hareng des mers du nord était exceptionnellement rare et de qualité inférieure, trente-trois bateaux venant des pêcheries des Smalls débarquèrent à Boulogne, en moins de cinq mois, près de cinq millions de kilogrammes d'un hareng excellent. | Le présent travail est divisé en quatre parties. La première consiste en une mise au point des documents acquis actuellement à la science sur les déplacements du Thon. La deuxième expose les résultats obtenus à ce sujet, en Tunisie, pendant l'année 1923 où j'ai suivi la pêche, soit en me rendant sur les thonaires, soit en participant à la croisière du Pourquoi-Pas sous le commandement du Docteur Charcot. La troisième étudie les rendements de la thonaire de Sidi-Daoud, la plus importante de la Tunisie, et leurs variations annuelles. Enfin la quatrième, relevant et résumant les plus marquantes des considérations précédentes, donne mes conclusions sur la nature et sur le déterminisme des déplacements du Thon. |

| The oils produced by marine animals are very different in composition, as showed by the samples we studied. We have been lucky to find in some oils prepared on board yachts belonging to H.M. Prince Albert of Monaco, during his scientific cruises, some products which had never been studied and of very different compositions. Some, as we will see through this study, are liquid fats, whereas others are oils, sometimes consisting (in a large part) of a new hydrocarbon. We had isolated this latter in July 1914, but WWI interrupted our research. However, some notes published in the Oceanographic Institute Bulletin ensure the priority of some results. |

Its publishing was delayed due to the difficult circumstances we experienced these recent years. | Über die Actiniarien, Zoantharien und Ceriantharien von Niederländisch-Westindien war bisher fast nichts bekannt, auch enthalten die holländischen Museen nur sehr wenig Material aus diesem Gebiete. Aus Curaçao lagen, soweit ich die Literatur überblicke, bisher überhaupt noch keine Funde vor. Es ist daher mit besonderer Freude zu begrüssen, dass Herr Dr. VAN DER HORST (Amsterdam) einen zweimonatigen Aufenthalt auf Curaçao im Jahre 1920 dazu benützt hat, eine umfangreiche Sammlung von Actiniarien, Zoantharien und Ceriantharien anzulegen, deren Bestimmung ich um so lieber übernommen habe, als es sich fast ausnahmslos um vorzüglich erhaltene Stücke handelt. | In 1920 a report ¹) on Dr. BOEKE’S collection of crabs and shrimps from Curaçao and other Dutch West Indian Islands was published. Dr. VAN DER HORST’S collection forms an important addition to the fauna of Curaçao, especially as to the Xanthids and Majids, or spider crabs. Four new species were discovered among the small forms, and have already been briefly described ²). They are more fully described and figured below. |

| In seiner Monographie beschreibt SPENGEL nur eine Enteropneusten-Art aus West-Indien, nämlich Ptychodera bahamensis, und auch von dieser Art konnte er nur ein einziges, recht kleines Exemplar untersuchen. Glossobalanus aurantiacus ist bis jetzt nur von der Küste Nord- und Süd-Carolinas bekannt; es ist möglich, dass auch diese Art weiter nach dem Süden an der Küste Floridas und in West-Indien vorkommt. Nachher hat WILLEY zwei Enteropneusten aus West-Indien beschrieben, Balanoglossus biminiensis und Balanoglossus jamaicensis. Ob dies zwei verschiedene Arten sind, bezweifle ich, denn die Unterschiede sind wohl sehr gering und auch von wenig Bedeutung. |

| Zur Bearbeitung liegen folgende australische Medusen vor: Phyllorhiza punctata von Lendenfeld. Catostylus mosaicus L. Agassiz (= Crambessa mosaica von Lendenfeld). Aurelia coerulea von Lendenfeld. Obwohl diese kleine aus 54 Exemplaren bestehende Sammlung von Scyphomedusen aus Port Jackson nur 3 verschiedene bereits bekannte species umfasst, ist sie doch von Interesse, da diese Medusen seit R. v. Lendenfeld in den Jahren 1884/8 durch keinen Forscher nachuntersucht worden sind. Trotzdem seine von vielen schönen Abbildungen begleitete Beschreibung der australischen Rhizostomeen sehr ausführlich ist (9), hat sich gezeigt, dass dieselbe in manchen Punkten unklar oder unzureichend ist.
