| Cocoa seedlings were grown in nutrient solution in order to find out the effects of the levels of N, P, K in the substrate on growth, symptoms and chemical composition of the leaves. A 3x3x3 factorial design was used. The following conclusions can be drawn. 5.1. Among the three elements under study, only nitrogen had a positive, significant effect on growth as measured by height and dry weight. 5.2. The level of a given elements in the leaves did increase when its level in the nutrient solution was raised. On the other hand the N content was positively affected by the concentration of P in the substrate. 5.3. A decrease in the N/P and K/P rations in the leaves was observed when the nutrient solutions had, res-respectively, absence of K and N and high level... |

| SEDIMENTOLOGY AND GEOMORPHOLOGY OF EL BIERZO (NW SPAIN) The purpose of this investigation was to study sedimentation in an intramontane basin in its relation to the relief of the surrounding mountain area. El Bierzo, an intramontane basin in NE Spain, is partly filled by continental Tertiary sediments whose age is thought to be Vindobonian on the basis of comparison with those of the Duero basin. These deposits were analysed by sedimentological methods: determination of grain-size, grain roundness, pebble composition, mineralogy of the light and heavy fractions and of the clays (by x-ray). | INTRODUCTION Dans sa monographie pourtant très complète de Sacculina carcini Thompson, publiée en 1884, Delage ne traite pas de l'étude embryologique de cette espèce. Il ne se désintéressait pas pour autant de ce sujet sur lequel il exprimait son intention de revenir „plus tard, dans un moment opportun". Les seules recherches d'embryologie descriptive antérieures à l'„Évolution de la Sacculine" sont dues à Van Beneden (1869-1870). | A preliminary systematic study of the genus Crataegus L. in the Netherlands resulted in the fact that at least 3 taxa can be distinguished, viz. the species C. monogyna Jacq. and C. oxyacantha L., and the hybrid C. calycina Peterm. X C. oxyacantha L. The hybrid was not yet known from this country; it is found in the NE part of Drente in hedges around wet pastures on a clay-formation deposited in the Riss-glacial period. |

| Some new localities of Scirpus rufus (Huds.) Schrad., Trifolium micranthum Viv., and Juncus inflexus L. in the southwestern part of Friesland. Naschrift van de redactie. Tijdens het voor de druk gereed maken van bovenstaand artikel ontvingen wij van de heer Van der Ploeg enige exemplaren van Trifolium micranthum Viv., die hij aantrof in het herbarium van een van zijn leerlingen, S. Muizelaar, en die verzameld waren op de oostelijke helft van het Oudemirdumer Klif. Deze nieuwe vindplaats vormt dus een schakel tussen die bij Vollenhove en de hier boven beschreven vondst op de dijk van Workum naar Hindelopen. | Para estudar o efeito de doses crescentes de nitrogênio, fósforo e potássio sôbre a produção da soja em solo derivado do arenito Botucatu, com vegetação de campo cerrado, foram instalados, em 1961-62, dois ensaios fatoriais em áreas vizinhas, uma das quais recebeu calcário dolomítico. Nos canteiros do último ensaio, semeou-se feijão em 1962-63, para verificar o efeito residual dos adubos aplicados na soja. As respostas ao nitrogênio e ao potássio, bem como as interações, não foram significativas. O efeito do fósforo, porém, foi significativo e linear, tanto na cultura da soja como na do feijão. | Testes de 3 fungicidas-Vapam, PCNB e Cupravit - foram conduzidos em 2 tipos de substrato, visando controlar "damping-off" do cafeeiro. Os substratos se comportaram de maneira diferente quanto ao número de plantas sadias obtidas. Os fungicidas agiram de maneira diferente em diferentes substratos. No substrato A os fungicidas diferiram na sua ação protetora enquanto que no solo B, não. No resultado finai, alguns tratamentos se mostraram superiores que outros. |

| Dutch floras mention two adventitious species of Erigeron L. sect. Phalacroloma (Cass.) Cronquist, viz. E. annuus (L.) Pers. [= Stenactis annua (L.) N. ab E.] and E. strigosus Mühlenb. ex Willd. [= Stenactis strigosa (Mühlenb. ex Willd.) DC.; S. bellidiflora (Wallr.) A. Br. ex Koch]. From a study of the specimens in several Netherlands herbaria appeared that only E. strigosus Mühlenb. ex Willd. has been found here. Nearly all the material belongs to var. septentrionalis (Fern. & Wieg.) Fern.; only a few specimens represent var. beyrichii (Fisch. & Mey.) A. Gray. |

| O presente trabalho relata os dados obtidos na determinação do carbono por dois métodos diferentes em dez amostras de solo, cujo teor em C variava de 0,2-0,3% a 3,4-4,2%. Um dos métodos foi o baseado na combustão por via seca, a 550-600°C, associado à volumetria de gases. O outro método fundamentou-se na oxidação do carbono, com solução de dicromato a quente (banho-maria), titulando-se o excesso de oxidante por iodometria. Foram executadas cinco determinações em cada amostra de terra, pelos dois métodos estudados. Os dados obtidos evidenciaram que a precisão dos dois métodos foi similar. Entretanto, o método por via úmida forneceu sempre uma porcentagem de carbono inferior à obtida pelo método baseado na combustão por via seca. Assim, nas dez amostras... |
