Avaliou-se o efeito da injeção de somatotropina bovina recombinante (r-bST) sobre o ciclo estral de cabras. Foram utilizadas 24 fêmeas da raça Toggenburg, distribuídas em dois tratamentos: T1 (n=12), cabras tratadas com r-bST; e T2 (n=12), cabras tratadas com solução salina (controle). A partir da primeira injeção do tratamento, acompanhou-se o ciclo dos animais em estro até o estro subseqüente. Abstract: The Doppler ultrasonography allows the characterization of blood flow and estimation of the functionality of reproductive organs. Therefore, it shows a great potential for use in multiple ovulation and embryo transfer (MOET) programs in ruminants. This study aimed to assess the effect of luteal blood flow and number of corpora lutea (CL) at the moment of embryo transfer to recipient on the establishment of pregnancy in sheep. In conclusion, both the subjective luteal blood flow and the number of CL did not influence the pregnancy rate in recipients of the Lacaune breed. The effects of feeding urea on embryo production, quality and developmental stages and follicular status at the beginning of a superovulatory treatment of Toggenburg does fed urea diet were investigated in this study. Eighteen females were randomly allocated to receive diets with: no urea (control, n=8), and 2.4% urea dietary dry matter (n=10) UDM. The embryo recovery was performed at day 7 or 8 of estrus cycle by transcervical technique and classified according to quality and developmental stage. The follicular status was determined by transrectal ultrasonography at the first day of FSH injection. The number and quality of embryos were not affected by dietary urea concentration. Abstract: Multiple ovulation and embryo transfer (MOET) is a reproductive biotechnique that allows accelerated genetic improvement of the species. In ruminants, the variability of the superovulatory response is a limiting factor for MOET programs. In addition, specifically in sheep, it is difficult to conduct embryo recovery by transcervical via, due to the anatomy of the cervical canal. A total of 42 lactating does were treated with intravaginal sponges (MAP, 60 mg) for 9 d plus 200 lU eCG and 22.5 mg d-cloprostenol 24 h before sponge removal. Ewes (n=23) received medroxyprogesterone acetate sponges (60mg, Progespon®, Syntex, (Prolise®, Tecnopec, São Paulo, Brazil) 24 h before sponge removal and were superovulated with 133 mg of porcine FSH i.m. (Folltropin®-V; Bioniche Animal Health, Belleville, Canada) in six decreasing doses (twice daily) at 60 h before sponge removal, under a crossover design. In conclusion, both treatments showed high variability in ovulatory response which might reduce the embryo yield average from donors. The protocol for cervical relaxation allowed the transcervical embryo recovery in high percentage of Lacaune ewes.
