The objective of this study was to evaluate the biomarkers of the redox state of pre-weaned Jersey dairy calves that consumed milk from cows supplemented with green tea (Camellia sinensis) or oregano extracts (Origanum vulgare). A completely randomized design was used with repeated measures in time. From their birth to 60 days of life, 8, 8 and 7 calves received milk from cows fed on a basal diet without addition of plant extracts (CON), with addition of 10.0 g of oregano extract (OE) per day and with 5.0 g of green tea extract (GT) per day, respectively. On days 1, 30, and 60 after birth redox state biomarkers were evaluated. Body weight was eval-uated every two weeks, rectal temperature and fecal score were accessed every two days and concentrate intake... |

Integrated crop-livestock (ICL) systems are precursor alternatives for sustainable production and landuse intensification. However, in most regions of Brazil, there is still low adoption of these systems, which makes the topic emerging and relevant for the investigation. Given this scenario, the research aimed to identify the main challenges and opportunities of using the ICL system. |

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of green tea (Camellia sinensis) and oregano (Origanum vulgare) extracts on behavior, weight gain, and health indicators of dairy calves from birth to 60 days of age. Twenty-one Jersey calves were distributed into three treatments: without additives (CON); green tea extract (GT): supply of 30 mg/kg of body weight/day; and oregano extract (OR): supply of 60 mg/kg of body weight/day. Observers registered animal?s behavior at 5-minute intervals from 8:00 to 16:00, three times a week, from day 1 to day 60 of life. The behavioral variables considered were time spent in standing, lying down, ruminating, frequency of visits to feeders, frequency of eating pasture and straw, as well as body weight gain, body... |
