Consequences of Varied Planting Geometry and Early Post Emergence Herbicides for Crop-Weed Interventions in Rice Under Semi-Arid Climate Planta Daninha
ASHRAF,U.; ABBAS,R.N.; HUSSAIN,S.; MO,Z.W.; ANJUM,S.A.; KHAN,I.; TANG,X.R..
ABSTRACT Adjustment of planting geometry along with reduced applications of herbicides can be a viable tool for effective weed management in rice. This present study has examined the effects of three planting geometries (20 cm x 20 cm, 20 cm x 10 cm and 10 cm x 10 cm); along with early post emergence herbicides, viz; bispyribac sodium 20% WP at 39.50 g a.i. ha-1, bispyribac sodium 100 SC at 39.50 g a.i. ha-1, cyhalofop-butyle 10% EC at 49.50 g a.i. ha-1, and penoxulam 240 EC at 15 g a.i. ha-1 on weed growth, and rice performance under semi-arid climate. A weedy check was maintained as control where no herbicide was applied. Results showed that the narrowest plant spacing (10 cm x 10 cm) effectively controlled weeds; however, it also resulted in reduced...

Crop Growth and Yield Losses in Wheat Due to Little Seed Canary Grass Infestation Differ with Weed Densities and Changes in Environment Planta Daninha
HUSSAIN,S.; KHALIQ,A.; BAJWA,A.A.; MATLOOB,A.; AREEB,A.; ASHRAF,U.; HAFEEZ,A.; IMRAN,M..
ABSTRACT: Understanding the weed interference with different sowing times of crop is inevitable for forecasting yield losses by weed infestation and designing sustainable weed management systems. A field experiment was carried out to evaluate the effects of sowing dates (20th November, 10th December) and various little seed canary grass (LCG) infestation levels (10, 20, 30 and 40 plant m-2) on growth and yield of wheat under semiarid conditions. Plots with two natural infestations of weeds including LCG (Unweeded control; UWC) and excluding LCG (UWC-LCG) were maintained for comparing its interference in pure stands with designated densities. A season-long weed-free (WFC) treatment was also run. All the weeds/LCG infestation levels starting from 10 LCG...

Seed Pre-Treatment and Planting Geometry Positively Influence Herbicide Efficacy in Wheat (Triticum aestivum) Planta Daninha
ULLAH,A.; KHALIQ,A.; RIAZ,A.; NOOR,M.A.; FIAZ,S.; WAQAS,M.A.; ZAIN,M.; ASHRAF,U.; NAWAZ,A..
ABSTRACT: An experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of priming, planting patterns and weed control treatments on weed spectrum, grain yield and profitability of wheat, during the growing season 2013-14. Two levels of seed priming (no priming, osmopriming) and planting patterns (broadcast, row plantation), and four levels of herbicide (pyroxulam at the rate of 14.08, 10.56, 7.04 and 7.521 g a.i. ha-1) were employed in the experiment, laid out in a randomized complete block design with split-split plot arrangement. The data regarding weed density, stand establishment, growth, and yield associated traits of wheat were recorded and analyzed by analysis of variance technique using statistical software DSAASTAT. The results revealed that the final...
