Sampling for a bacteriological study of aquatic enrironments ArchiMer

Using water samples from several observation levels of a brackish lagoon, statistical solutions are offered for the sampling optimisation of bacteria viable counts. The variability between plate count is studied by the mean of the Taylor's power law. The sampling strategy optimisation, including several sources of variability, is realized by hierarchical analysis of variance and the estimation of the sampling cost of each source. This optimisation procedure results in a great increase of the relative efficiency of the sampling design and allow to obtain significant differences between the bacterial concentrations.
