Some king scallop reimplantation experiments on an old deposit (Roadstead of Brest) have been conducted with spats collected in the Bay of Saint-Brieuc. In the introduced population, the length growth has not proved very different from that of the original population. But scallops have acquired the characteristics of the indigenous population as far as valve curvature is concerned. They also showed a precocious sexual maturity which did not exist at the same time in the original population. The acquisition of indigenous characteristics could have interesting consequences for the commercialisation of such a repopulated deposit. |
