Comparison between classical and Bayesian methods to investigate the history of olive cultivars using SSR-polymorphisms Inra

Olive cultivar origins are unknown. We attempted to use multivariate analyses and based Bayesian methods to look for sites of olive cultivar geographic origins. In this study, to establish the method, forty cultivars were chosen with different chlorotypes that represent the olive RAPD-based diversity in the Mediterranean basin. We constructed a dendrogram, as reference, using molecular SSR data. Cultivar origins in the oleaster were examined by using Bayesian clustering methods. Construction of a crop-wild hybrid population for broadening genetic diversity in cultivated sunflower and first evaluation of its combining ability: the concept of neodomestication Inra

The genetic base of sunflower elite lines is very narrow, due to many years of selection and breeding. To broaden the genetic diversity of the cultivated sunflower, in 1995 73 wild sunflower populations were crossed with 3 cultivated lines (Testers), and 219 hybrid offspring's were evaluated in the field. GCA and SCA effects were computed suggesting for all traits a genetic potential for improvement through selection. Study of the hybrids revealed that the wild accessions bear different genetic abilities to combine with the testers for traits of morphological architecture, phenology and yield (seed weight and seed oil). Controle de la purete des semences de base et de prebase male-steriles cytoplasmiques par hybridation moleculaire avec un plasmide mitochondrial Inra

Pour produire des semences hybrides, la lignée mâle-stérile cytoplasmique ne doit pas être contaminée par le mainteneur. Si tel est le cas, l’hybride contiendra des plantes hétérogènes, avec pour conséquence, une diminution du rendement. Pour identifier spécifiquement le cytoplasme du mainteneur, nous proposons d’utiliser une méthode d’analyse moléculaire. Un plasmide mitochondrial spécifique des mitochondries du mainteneur est utilisé comme sonde moléculaire pour révéler la présence éventuelle de séquences du plasmide dans le lot de semences mâle-stériles cytoplasmiques. Differences between native and introduced olive cultivars as revealed by morphology of drupes, oil composition and SSR polymorphisms: a case study in Tunisia Inra

Olive cultivars are diversified but nothing is known on their origins and if they are local or introduced in any regions. The study aims to determine which traits may help to identify native from introduced cultivars and oleaster trees. We compared cultivars and oleasters from North Tunisia to determine their relationships based on morphological traits, oil composition and SSR genotyping at seven loci. We used those parameters to examine 32 cultivar trees from 17 denominations and 70 oleaster trees sampled. Diversity of Jerusalem artichoke clones (Helianthus tuberosus L.) from the INRA-Montpellier collection Inra

INRA hosted the national Jerusalem artichoke collection in Rennes and Clermont-Ferrand until 2005. It now takes place in Montpellier. The list of cultivar-clones and of wild accessions is provided as well as main data on expected yield, earliness, female fertility, and disease susceptibility to viruses and Oidium. Descriptions of some traits (anthocyanin, ramification, chlorophyll) were reported. Data was collected from a hydroponic experimental design which was set up with two repeats at Mauguio and Montpellier. The experimental yields are shown for nine clones chosen for agronomic production of tubers and the pictures of tubers are given.

Effets du methomyl sur les tissus du mais (Zea Mays L.) a cytoplasme normal ou a cytoplasme Texas en culture in vitro Inra

Les tissus mis en culture in vitro sont des scutellums immatures, et des rondelles de coléoptile de maïs à cytoplasme normal ou à cytoplasme Texas. Les tissus de maïs à cytoplasme normal sont résistants alors que ceux à cytoplasme Texas sont sensibles au méthomyl. Le méthomyl inhibe l’initiation et la croissance des cals des tissus à cytoplasme Texas alors que celles des tissus à cytoplasme normal ne sont pas affectées (Tableau II; Fig. 1). L’inhibition de la croissance des tissus à cytoplasme Texas sous l’action de 3,6 mM de méthomyl apparaît létale et irréversible tandis que les tissus à cytoplasme normal continuent à croître comme les tissus non traités au méthomyl. Taming the wild and 'wilding' the tame: tree breeding and dispersal in Australia and the Mediterranean Inra

The olive (Olea europaea) and the wattles (mimosas or Acacia spp.) are typical tree species of the Mediterranean and Australia, respectively. Both trees have been subject to trans-oceanic movements, including the introduction of Mediterranean olives to Australia, and the introduction of Australian wattles to the Mediterranean. In each case, the trees have naturalised and become problematic invasives. Based on case studies of such movements, we compare and contrast the processes of transfer, dispersal, and genetic changes of these trees, with particular attention to crop-feral-wild complexes in both their home ranges and in introduced areas. Variation of ribosomal DNA and inheritance of polymorphisms in 6 Petunia hybrida hort lines Inra

Dans 6 lignées de Petunia hybrida dont l’ADN a été hydrolysé par EcoRI, BamHI, HindIII, KpnI, SacI ou XhoI, l’ADN ribosomique est apparu très polymorphe. Chaque lignée porte plusieurs types d’unités ; ainsi 13 types différents sont révélés dans les lignées, ce qui est surprenant. Nous avons caractérisé les différents types et déterminé le nombre de loci. Deux types d’unités avec et sans sites HindIII sont révélés. Pour la lignée St43 les fragments EcoRI et BamHI permettent de construire une unité de 11,4 kb. En outre un fragment EcoRI de 2,6 kb ne peut être placé dans l’unité de 11,4 kb. II est en effet équivalent au fragment de 2,4 kb portant la séquence codante du gène 25 S. Il est donc placé dans une unité de 11,7 kb. Dans la lignée TIh1 les fragments...
