Abstract This study aimed to evaluate the production of methane, carbon dioxide, and volatile fatty acids and changes in ruminal pH in vitro with oilseed press cakes inclusion, such as, cottonseed, sunflower, castor bean, moringa and jatropha at four different levels (0, 30, 50 and 70%) in replacement to the sugarcane in ruminant feeding using semi-automated in vitro technique. The byproduct that produced less CO2 was cottonseed cake (p = 0.0059). The cakes that produced the least amount of CH4 were moringa at 70% (p < 0.05) and cottonseed at 70% levels (p < 0.0001). The cakes that had the highest increases in VFAs were cottonseed and castor (p < 0.0001). Additionally, greater pH was moringa at 70% and cottonseed at 50% levels (p < 0.0001). The... |

A total of 10 Sorghum cultivar: two lines (CMSXS114, T ) and (CMSXS165, WT ), six hybrids ( 9953101,T; 9953130,T; BR601, WT; BR701, T; BR700, T; and AG2005, WT and two varieties (BR501, WT; and BR506, WT) with 8 replications were ensiled in PVC silos of 3 kg per silo for 60 days and then analyzed for condensed tannins (CT) (colorimetric analysis by the butanol-HCl method), CP, NDF, ADF, and in vitro (IVDMD-24 and 48hs) digestibilities. Condensed tannins (CT) from quebracho were purified using affinity chromatography with sephadex LH-20 and used as a standard. Low concentrations of CT have been defined as 10 g kg-1 DM or less and medium as 10 to 40 g kg-1 DM, and levels exceeding 40 g kg-1 DM as high. Hybrid 9953130 had the highest concentration of CT among... |

The purposes of this study were to determine the dietary requirement for sulfur (S) by young and adult Angora goats, to determine if supplemental methionine in drinking water will increase the post-ruminal supply of methionine and enhance mohair growth, and to determine if S deficiency alters the amino acid composition of ruminal bacteria. A total of 87 goats were used in these studies. Goats received supplemental dietary S either as sodium sulfate or as DL-methionine in the drinking water or in feed. Sulfur adequacy was assessed by measuring mohair production, feed intake, plasma amino acids, bacterial S-amino acid concentrations, and ruminal parameters. Effects of supplemental S were evaluated at two different stages of growth(growing or adult Angora... |

This study aimed to determine the in vitro degradability of dry matter and the total gas production of oil seed press cake from biodiesel production (Gossypium hirsutum L., Helianthus annuus L., Ricinus communis, Moringa oleífera L. and Pinhão manso curcas L.) at four different levels of replacement (0, 30, 50, and 70%) for cane sugar (Saccharum officinarum RB.) in ruminant feed. Inocula were prepared using the ruminal fluid of three Holstein cows, and data were collected after 48 hours of incubation. The byproducts of Moringa had the highest degradability, and castor presented the lowest values at all evaluated levels of replacement. Castor bean byproduct showed the highest total gas production, cotton showed the lowest production, and the byproduct of... |

ABSTRACT This study aimed to evaluate the in vitro degradability and gas production in diets containing byproducts from the national biodiesel industry (castor bean, canola, forage radish and black sunflower) replacing Brachiaria grass in four levels (0, 30, 50 and 70%). The inoculum for in vitro incubation was obtained from three fistulated Holstein cows. The experimental design was 4 x 4 factorial completely randomized experimental design consisting of four byproducts and four levels. All byproducts studied had a significant effect (p < 0.05) on in vitro digestibility. The castor bean byproducts promoted the lowest cumulative gas production at the end of 48 hours incubation. Regarding digestibility, the byproducts of canola and radish at 70% level did... |

This study was realized to evaluate the production of gas and volatile fatty acids when glycerin was used to replace four forage species through the use of a semi-automated technique in vitro. The experimental design included 4 treatments and 4 replications. The treatments consisted of increasing levels of glycerin (0, 30, 50 and 70%), which was used to replace the forage plants Elephant grass, sugar cane silage, corn silage and Brachiaria grass. Replacement of the Brachiaria and Elephant grasses with glycerin linearly reduced the production of methane and carbon dioxide and ammonia nitrogen and had a positive effect on forage quality (p < 0.05). With the addition of glycerin, the values for acetate concentration decreased (p < 0.05); however, when... |

This study aimed to evaluate the in vitro degradation and total gas production of different oil seed press cakes from a biodiesel production chain gas through the use of a semi-automatic technique of gas production in vitro. The treatments consisted of substituting elephant grass in increasing levels, 0%, 30, 50 and 70%, with the byproducts of Gossyypium hirsutum, Ricinus communis, Moringa oleifeira, Jatropha curcas and Helianthus annus. The oil seed press cakes of Moringa oleifeira had the highest rate of in vitro degradation of dry matter compared with other foods but did not result in a higher final volume of gases production. Gossyypium hirsutum, Pinhão manso curcas and Ricinus communis showed a higher in vitro degradability of similar dry matter. The... |

Adjacent fields of Clitoria ternatea (CT) and forage sorghum (FS) were each divided in half. Early (E) and late (L) forages were harvested, enslled, and fed ad Ilbltum to 40 adult male criollo goats for 21 days in a randomized design. Silage analyses (% of dry mat ter) for neutral (NDF) and acid detergent fiber, crude protein and KMNO4 lignin were: ECT, 49.8, 34.7, 19.2, 9.8; LCT. 55.9, 34.6, 17.6, lO.7; EFS, 77.4, 48.8, 4.6, 8.4; and LFS, 69.3, 43.O, 4.9, 9.2. Total feces were collected for 7 days. Treatment means for voluntary intake (DMI) and apparent digestibility (DDM) of dry matter, digestible DMI (DDMI), and rumination (~uT) and eating (ET) time are shawn in the table. DDM and DDMI decreased with advanced maturity in both CT and FS. A greather DMI... |
