| ABSTRACT: Essential oils of plants whose main compound is citral showed beneficial effects when added to fish feed. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the dietary effect of the addition of citral on zootechnical parameters and digestive enzyme activities of Centropomus undecimalis. Juveniles were fed for 45 days with diets containing different amounts of citral (0.0 - control, 0.5, 1.0, and 2.0 mL per kg of diet). The water quality parameters were kept stable during the experiment and no mortality was observed. At the end of the experimental period, the treatment 0.5 mL citral per kg of diet had the lowest weight gain and specific growth rate, and the highest feed conversion, while the same parameters did not differ between the other... |

| Different light intensities were tested during the larval rearing of fat snook (Centropomus parallelus) to evaluate its influence on survival and functional swim bladder rate. Newly-hatched larvae were obtained by stripping of hormonally induced broodstock, and were stocked in 32-liter tanks at densities from 30 to 50 L-1. Four experiments were carried out testing six light intensities: 50, 100, 200, 500, 1500, and 2500 lx, and total darkness as a control. Mean survival ranged from 0.06 to 16.0% and were significantly influenced by light intensity. Complete darkness resulted in 100% mortality after one week, larvae appeared to have starved since they had empty stomachs. The species has the characteristics of a visual-feeder. | Eggs of the Southern Brazilian flounder Paralichthys orbignyanus were obtained through spawning induction and reared in laboratory. The eggs released were free-floating or pelagic. Other important characteristics were: spherical shape, smooth chorion, narrow perivitelline space, and a single oil globule. Egg and oil globule diameter were about 0.792 ± 0.008 mm and 0.114 ± 0.003 mm, respectively. The blastodisc was observed approximately 1 h after fertilization and followed by blastodisc cleavage. | O objetivo deste trabalho foi analisar a influência da densidade de estocagem no crescimento, conversão alimentar e sobrevivência de juvenis de robalo-flecha (Centropomus undecimalis). Os peixes foram coletados em ambiente natural e treinados a aceitar dietas artificiais. Os indivíduos, com comprimento total de 13±0,4 cm e peso de 23±0,3 g foram estocados em tanques circulares de fibra de vidro de 5 m³, com água do mar e aeração contínua, nas densidades de 3, 6 e 9 peixes/m³, por 180 dias. Os valores de amônia total (0 a 0,5 mg/L), temperatura da água (23,3 a 30,6ºC), salinidade (17 a 34 g/L), pH (7,8 a 8,4) e oxigênio dissolvido (4,8 a 6,9 mg/L) apresentaram padrão similar entre os tratamentos. | O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito de diferentes diluentes, em atmosfera normal e modificada, na preservação de sêmen refrigerado da cioba - Lutjanus analis. Amostras de sêmen de 30 peixes foram avaliadas quanto à taxa de motilidade, duração da motilidade, concentração espermática e espermatócrito. Para a refrigeração a 4ºC, três diferentes diluentes, com distintas composições iônicas e valores de pH distintos, foram testados em atmosfera normal e atmosfera modificada (100% oxigênio).
