SABIIA - Sistema Aberto e Integrado de Informação em Agricultura (Sabiia)

In this paper the German, French and Dutch editions of Knorr’s conchological work Vergnügen der Augen und des Gemüths are collated. The plates of the three editions are also compared. Brief biographical data is given, of the artists, engravers and collectors named on the plates. The French and Dutch publications are not only translated re-editions, but emended, complementary editions of the German work. Many figures of the plates are iconotypes.

During the Indonesian-Dutch SNELLIUS -II Expedition (1984-1985) to the Indonesian Archipelago 46 pectinacean species were collected from the Flores Sea and Banda Sea (5°52'-9°57'S, 118°12'-123°58'E) at littoral to bathyal depth (835 m). Introduction Redfern described and figured a propeamussiid species (as Cyclopecten sp.) from the Bahama Islands, which he compared with Cyclopecten nanus Verril & Bush in Verrill, 1897,known from the sub-tropical and tropical western Atlantic. In fact, both species are more morphologically related to Similipecten than to Cyclopecten and therefore both are here classified with Similipecten.

Introduction During the Indonesian-French Karubar cruise to eastern Indonesia a new scallop was found near the Kai Islands, which was provisionally identified by Dijkstra & Kastoro(1997: 279, figs 156-159), based on a few dead specimens from the upper bathyal depths. Subsequently, more material was collected by the French Musorstom 9 cruise to the Marquesas Islands (French Polynesia), sufficient to describe it herein. All specimens (empty shells) were deposited in MNHN, with voucher specimens in the private pectinoid reference collection of the author.

This paper lists 22 pectinoid types (21 primary and one secondary) and three potential syntypes in the Museum of Natural History (ZMB) in Berlin. Eight lectotypes are designated herein for the stabilization of taxonomic names: Pecten aequatorialis, Pecten australis, Pecten clathratus, Camptonectes gaussianus, Pecten nigromaculatus, Pecten puncticulatus, Pecten pycnolepis and Pecten vesiculosus. Nomenclatural notes on the types and further specimens are provided and the current systematic positions of the covered taxa are reported.

An overview is given of the Pectinidae types present in the Gualtieri collection. In Gualtieri (1742) 46 figures (pl. 73 - 15 figs, pl. 74 - 25 figs, pl. 98 – 2 figs, and pl. 99 – 4 figs) show specimens of Pectinidae. Linnaeus (1758) referred to 10 Pectinidae species figured by Gualtieri. New species and new records of living bathyal Pectinoidea (Bivalvia: Propeamussiidae: Pectinidae) from the Southwest Pacific

Fifty-two deep-water species of Pectinoidea (37 Propeamussiidae, 1 Entoliidae, 14 Pectinidae) are listed from Norfolk Ridge (11 species), Loyalty Islands (4 species), Fiji Islands (30 species), Tonga (26 species), Solomon Islands (26 species) and the Marquesas archipelago (8 species). All species from Fiji, Tonga and the Marquesas are new records and six species of Propeamussiidae are new to science: Propeamussium boucheti (Fiji and Tonga), Parvamussium biformatum (Solomons), Parvamussium lozoueti (Fiji and Tonga), Parvamussium marquesanum (Marquesas), Parvamussium polynesianum (Marquesas) and Similipecten herosae (Tonga). Two new combinations (Hyalopecten tydemani, Talochlamys gladysiae) are introduced.

Pectinoidea is a superfamily of marine bivalve mollusks. Type series of the two new Pectinoidea species, Parvamussium liaoi (Propeamussiidae) and Scaeochlamys squamea (Pectinidae), collected during deep-sea cruises off south and northeastern Taiwan in 2000 and 2001, respectively, were relocated from the Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle, Paris, France and the National Museum of Natural Sciences, Taichung, Taiwan (NMNS) to the Mollusca collection of National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium, Pingtung, Taiwan (NMMBM). The Icelandic pectinoid fauna is reviewed, based on material from the benthic survey programme BIOICE and 17 species are recorded. Similipecten oskarssoni is proposed as a replacement name for Pecten groenlandicus var. minor Locard, 1898 (Propeamussiidae), which is considered a valid species. Lectotypes are designated for Pecten groenlandicus var. minor and Pecten frigidus Jensen, 1904 (Pectinidae). Cyclopecten ambiannulatus Schein, 1989, Parvamussium propinquum (Smith, 1885), Catillopecten eucymatus (Dall, 1898), and Aequipecten opercularis (Linnaeus, 1758) were previously not known from the Icelandic fauna.
