A new versatile database created for geneticists and breeders to link molecular and phenotypic data in perennial crops: the AppleBreed DataBase Inra

Objective: AppleBreed DataBase (DB) aims to store genotypic and phenotypic data from multiple pedigree verified plant populations (crosses, breeding selections and commercial cultivars) so that they are easily accessible for geneticists and breeders. It will help in elucidating the genetics of economically important traits, in identifying molecular markers associated with agronomic traits, in allele mining and in choosing the best parental cultivars for breeding. It also provides high traceability of data over generations, years and localities. The present study aimed to dissect tree architectural plasticity into genetic, ontogenetic and environmental effects over the first 4 years of growth of an apple F1 progeny by means of quantitative traits loci (QTL) mapping. Both growth and branching processes were phenotyped on the consecutive annual shoots of different axes within a tree. For each studied trait, predicted values (best linear unbiased predictors, BLUPs) of the genotypic (G) effect or its interaction with tree age (G×A) and climatic year (G×Y) were extracted from mixed linear models of repeated data. Dans une famille de pleins-frères issue du croisement entre deux individus hétérozygotes, l’analyse des associations entre des marqueurs moléculaires dominants (RAPD, polymorphisme de l’ADN amplifié au hasard) et des caractères quantitatifs permet de détecter des locus impliqués dans l’expression des variations phénotypiques de caractères quantitatifs (QTL). Ces QTL sont spécifiques de chacun des parents du croisement. Traits related to tree architecture and tolerance to abiotic stress represent innovative targets for the selection of new cultivars in the contexts of integrated fruit production (IFP) and global climatic changes. Controlling tree form and leaf functioning is thus a desirable breeding objective, but efforts have been hampered by a poor knowledge of their determinisms in apple. In the last four years, the genetic basis of architectural and ecophysiological traits was investigated in a F1 apple progeny (‘Starkrimson’ × ‘Granny Smith’ cross) of 123 genotypes. Interaction famille x site dans un test tristationnel de descendances de douglas (Pseudotsuga menziesii Mirb.) Franco Inra

Cet article analyse l’interaction génotype x environnement dans un groupe de 63 descendances maternelles issues de provenances françaises de Douglas. Sur trois sites expérimentaux très contrastés, six caractères différents de hauteur, phénologie et forme sont étudiés. Après analyse de variance, les écovalences de Wricke (1962) et leurs inverses, appelées interactivités, sont calculées pour les sites et les familles sur les quatre caractères présentant une forte interaction. Une étude de ces interactivités est réalisée : distribution, corrélations entre elles, corrélations avec les performances familiales. L’évolution du F d’interaction pour la hauteur totale est observée au cours de l’élimination des familles par ordre d’interactivités...

Nous présentons ici les travaux s’inscrivant dans le cadre du projet «Mathématiques et marqueurs moléculaires», en abrégé «MMM». Ces travaux ont pour objet l’identification et l’utilisation de gènes contrôlant des caractères quantitatifs - ou QTL (quantitative trait loci) - à partir de l’information issue des phénotypes, de la généalogie et de marqueurs moléculaires. Une première partie concerne la mise en évidence de gènes à effet majeur et l’utilisation de ces gènes en sélection, à partir d’informations phénotypiques (mesures sur le caractère dont le contrôle génétique est recherché) et généalogiques (relations de parenté entre individus de la population mesurée). QTL analysis for leaf gas exchange in an apple progeny grown under atmospheric constraints Inra

The capacity of the apple tree to tolerate temporary abiotic constraints was investigated through leaf responses to different vapor pressure deficits (VPD). A ‘Starkrimson’ x ‘Granny Smith’ F1 progeny of 125 full-sibs whip-grafted onto Pajam® 2 rootstocks and pot-cultivated was studied (three replicates). After two months, plants were transferred into a controlled environment chamber ensuring five increasing VPDs, from 0.7 to 2.7 kPa, other conditions remaining constant. Leaf stomatal conductance (gsw), net CO2 assimilation (An) and transpiration (E) rates were measured, and water use efficiency (WUE, An/E) computed.
