Chemicals sorbed to environmental microplastics are toxic to early life stages of aquatic organisms 5
Cormier, Bettie; Gambardella, Chiara; Tato, Tania; Perdriat, Quentin; Costa, Elisa; Veclin, Cloé; Le Bihanic, Florane; Grassl, Bruno; Dubocq, Florian; Kärrman, Anna; Van Arkel, Kim; Lemoine, Soazig; Lagarde, Fabienne; Morin, Benedicte; Garaventa, Francesca; Faimali, Marco; Cousin, Xavier; Bégout, Marie-laure; Beiras, Ricardo; Cachot, Jerome.
Microplastics are ubiquitous in aquatic ecosystems, but little information is currently available on the dangers and risks to living organisms. In order to assess the ecotoxicity of environmental microplastics (MPs), samples were collected from the beaches of two islands in the Guadeloupe archipelago, Petit-Bourg (PB) located on the main island of Guadeloupe and Marie-Galante (MG) on the second island of the archipelago. These samples have a similar polymer composition with mainly polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP). However, these two samples are very dissimilar with regard to their contamination profile and their toxicity. MPs from MG contain more lead, cadmium and organochlorine compounds while those from PB have higher levels of copper, zinc and...

Harmonization in the Joint European Research Infrastructure Network for Coastal Observatories -JERICO 5
Petihakis, George; Petersen, Wilhelm; Nair, Rajesh; Faimali, Marco; Pavanello, Giovanni; Boukerma, Kada; Delauney, Laurent; Puillat, Ingrid; Farcy, Patrick; Greenwood, Naomi.
The JERICO European research infrastructure (RI) is integrating diverse platform types such as fixed buoys, piles, moorings, drifters, FerryBoxes, gliders, HF radars, coastal cable observatories and the associated technologies dedicated to observe and monitor coastal European seas. The first steps of setting up, coordination and harmonization were done during 2011 to 2015 in the framework of FP7-JERICO (www.jerico-fp7.eu), a 4-year long infrastructure project co-funded by the European Commission with 27 partners from 17 European countries under the coordination of IFREMER. Next steps are driven in the H2020-JERICO-NEXT European project until 2019, involving 33 partners. The main objective of the JERICO consortium is to establish a Pan European approach for...

Report on JERICO Biofouling Monitoring Program (BMP) 5
Faimali, Marco; Pavanello, Giovanni; Greco, Giuliano; Morgana, Silvia.
The main aim for this document is to report after the Biofouling Monitoring Program (BMP) aiming at identifying major organisms responsible for biofouling in different geographical areas, as an input to the development and application of a more suitable approach to any specific region. This report is strongly linked to the JERICO deliverable D4.3 “Report on Biofouling Prevention Methods”, available at http://www.jerico-fp7.eu/deliverables/d4-3-report-on-biofouling-prevention-methods.
