| This atlas presents in a synthetic form the hydrodynamical, geological and biological characteristics of one of the most studied region of the French littoral. Geologic and geophysical data of the Saint-Brieuc Bay show that the deep basement consists of pre-palaeozoic or palaeozoic sedimentary series in the centre of the Bay, whereas metamorphic and magmatic formations are dominant in coastal regions. The location of superficial sediments in the Bay, is mainly due to marine currents. A granulometric gradient, from very fine to coarse sediments, appears in two directions: from the coast towards the high sea, and from the west to the east. | Un des aspects de l'étude écologique d'avant-projet du site marémoteur du golfe normano-breton confié par EDF au CNEXO a consisté à identifier les peuplements benthiques de la zone intertidale de la baie du Mont-St-Michel. L'idée directrice a été de définir les différentes composantes faunistiques de la baie en fonction~ notamment la nature du substrat et du niveau bathymétrique. L'analyse des données bibliographiques a fait rapidement apparaître le manque de données biologiques dans la partie orientale de la baie, aussi l'étude a-t-elle été centrée sur ce secteur. |

| The slipper-limpet (Crepidula fornicata) is a marine gastropod which causes serious perturbations in shellfish beds, because of spatial spreading and density rising. Along French coasts, in Northern Brittany, two bays are highly colonized : bay of Saint-Brieuc, centre for scallops fishery, and bay of Mont-Saint-Michel, a famous oyster-farming area, with a total limpet stock about 450 000 metric tons. | Following a preliminary mapping survey using a combination of acoustic techniques, spatial patterns of sedimentologic and biological characteristics of the Bay of Douarnenez were studied in 2001 from a series of grab samples and underwater video recording aiming at calibrate the acoustic facies of the bottom and at characterized them from a biological point of view. | The limpet (Crepidula fornicata), a gastropod mollusc belonging to the Calyptraeidae, native of the Atlantic coast of northern America, was introduced by accident on the French coasts in different steps (Blanchard, 1995, 1997). The most important, at the beginning of the 1970s, is linked to the massive importation of the Japanese oyster (Crassostrea gigas), in replacement of the Portuguese oyster (Crassostrea angulata), decimated by an epizooty. | This study used a large spatial scale approach in order to better quantify the relationships between maerl bed structure and a selection of potentially forcing physical factors. Data on maerl bed structure and morpho-sedimentary characteristics were obtained from recent oceanographic surveys using underwater video recording and grab sampling. | The aim of this report is to provide total biomass estimates of the blue mussel (Mytilus edulis, M. galloprovincialis) livestock harvested on mussel beds, and of the cockle Cerastoderma edule in the Bay of Saint-Brieuc. The sampling scheme for reared mussels combines stratification and three-stage sampling. The biomass of mussels, estimated twice in a year, remains close to 3 500 metric tons of wet weight (coefficient of variation : 10 to 14 %).
