Communication de l’information géographique maritime et côtière pour la gestion d’une crise environnementale : le naufrage du chimiquier « Ievoli Sun » en Centre Manche 5
Loubersac, Lionel; Lazure, Pascal; Dumas, Franck; Le Roux, Jean-francois; Riou, Philippe; Foucher, Eric; Guillaumont, Brigitte.
On the morning of the 31th October 2000, the Italian chemical tanker “Ievoli Sun” sank in the central Channel. Her cargo presented a risk of contamination for the marine environment and nearby coastal environment. From the moment the sinking was announced, Ifremer decided to implement, in almost real time, tools to produce and communicate environmental data. This paper presents the solutions chosen to develop: - a Geographic Information System to prepare maps, - a series of simulations for dispersion at sea of dissolved products - a general information web site structure (see http://www.ifremer.fr/envlit/surveillance/ievoli.htm). This paper will go beyond technical presentations of methods, tools and results obtained to take a critical look at the site’s...

Development and validation of a sediment dynamics model within a coastal operational oceanographic system 5
Cayocca, Florence; Verney, Romaric; Petton, Sebastien; Caillaud, Matthieu; Dussauze, Morgan; Dumas, Franck; Le Roux, Jean-francois; Pineau-guillou, Lucia; Le Hir, Pierre.
The rising interest in environmental and ecosystem dynamics have lead coastal oceanographers to not only investigate the “traditional” physical parameters describing the ocean state and its dynamics (e.g. temperature, salinity, currents, water levels in coastal areas), but to also account for the dynamics of parameters describing its biogeochemical components. To that end, MARS3D regional and coastal modelling system has been coupled to ecosystem modules (ECO-MARS3D, ECO3M) as well as sediment dynamics modules (MARS3D-SEDIM): sediment, nutrient and primary production contents can be considered as the lower level environment and ecosystem descriptors of the “biogeochemical” ocean. Early investments into physical and biological analysis at the regional scale...

Aims - To detect and characterise extreme events in a coastal ecosystem by combining in situ high-frequency observations and high-resolution numerical simulations -To describe the interannual variability of extreme events in a context of climate change  -To quantify the links between extreme low salinity episodes and both large and local scale processes, using weather regimes, precipitations and river runoffs as proxies of hydro-climate forcing

General Introduction: PREVIMER, a French pre-operational coastal ocean forecasting capability. 5
Dumas, Franck; Pineau-guillou, Lucia; Lecornu, Fabrice; Le Roux, Jean-francois; Le Squere, Bruno.
Pre-operational system PREVIMER provides with coastal observations and forecasts along French coasts: currents, waves, sea levels, temperature, salinity, primary production and turbidity. These marine environmental data come from in situ observations, satellite images, and numerical models. They are centralized and archived in PREVIMER databases, then published on website (real time and historical data), and freely available to users, private companies as well as public administrations. This paper describes in details PREVIMER components and users.

Manuel de l'utilisateur de la base de données HOMERE. Mise à jour 2017 du jeu de données de hindcast 5
Maisondieu, Christophe; Accensi, Mickael; Le Roux, Jean-francois; Boudière, Edwige.

COAST-HF (Coastal OceAn observing SysTem – High Frequency) is a French national observation network of the physical and biogeochemical dynamics of the coastal ocean, at high frequency. COAST-HF aims at understanding and analysing changes of contrasted coastal ecosystems at different temporal scales from extreme or intermittent high frequency (hour, day) events to multi-year trends. Since several years (from 2000 for the longest time series in Bay of Brest), the network extends along the English Channel, Atlantic and Mediterranean French coasts through 14 fixed platforms instrumented for the in situ high-frequency (≤ 1h) observations. Several French research institutes (IFREMER, CNRS, Marine Universities) are operating these systems. The organization of...

PREVIMER: Improvement of surge, sea level and currents modelling 5
Pineau-guillou, Lucia; Dumas, Franck; Theetten, Sebastien; Ardhuin, Fabrice; Lecornu, Fabrice; Le Roux, Jean-francois; Idier, Deborah; Muller, Heloise; Pedreros, Rodrigo.
The pre-operational system PREVIMER provides coastal observations and forecasts along French coasts. It provides, among other variables, currents, sea levels, surges and waves. This paper describes the development and validation of a high temporal (15 minutes) and spatial (250 m) resolution modeling system, based on MARS hydrodynamic model (Lazure and Dumas 2008), along the Atlantic and English Channel coasts. Models benefi t from experiments developed during the PREVIMER project by: (1) taking better into account wind and wave actions (improving surface drag coeffi cient parameterization), (2) taking into account a better meteorological forcing (improving spatial and temporal meteorological resolution). These high resolution models have been integrated in...
