This report is a result of a contract between Ifremer and the French Ministry of Industry. The aim was to provide map the fisheries activity and landings for french fishing vessels, located in the Eastern Channel and the Bay of Biscay during the year 2005. Two areas have been selected: - the "Eastern Channel" area, including 7 administrative departments : Nord, Pas-de-Calais, Somme, Seine-Maritime, Eure, Calvados and Manche. - the "Loire-Gironde" area, including 4 administrative departments : Loire-Atlantique, Vendée, Charente-Maritime and Gironde. |

A large number of studies on common sole have already been done for years by many research laboratories. This study sought to make a focus on a major nursery on the Atlantic coast, the Pertuis charentais, through the results of eight annual surveys (2005-2012) in late summer (SOLe PERtuis) targeting sole juveniles with a small beam trawl until subtidal zone (<1.50 m). Some of the results obtained in this report confirm previous studies, such as, among others, that more than 80% YOY (G0) occupy muddy or sandy mud bottom at a depth less than 5 m, or that there is a relative correlation between large rainfall in the spring, river flows and abundance of G0 in nursery. However in the Pertuis Breton this correlation is little expressed by an extension of... |

This document presents a comparative assessment of six triennal analysis carried out between 1986 and 2002, on 1300 boats, on average, from the 35 ports of Southern Bay of Biscay fishing fleets (from Loire river to Spanish border). Fisheries statistics allow the identification of different fishing practices and fishing boats associated with them within the fleets. In order to allow comparison and analysis of the evolution that has taken place during the study period, the same variables (gears used, landed species) and multivariate analysis procedures have been used to produce groupings of vessels. Over the period, 11 components, on average, have been identified, grouped in two entities, mobile and fixed gears. If the discriminative characteristics... |

The European contract PECOSUDE (Small inshore fisheries of the south of Europe) accepted in 2000 for 2 years concerns French partners (IFREMER, GEOLITTOMER and CEMAGREF), Spanish (AZTI, UPV and IEO) and Portuguese (IPIMAR). For the renegotiation of the PCP in 2002, the aim is to assess the inshore and estuarian fisheries from the Loire to the Portugal. Three levels of study are considered : halieutics (data 1999), socio-economy and marketing (in progress). Frequentation of 12 miles area for France and continental shelf for northern Spain and Portugal, as well as the fishing period lower than 96 hours was determined as the definition of this fishery for the study |

P>1. The development of ecosystem approaches to environmental management implies the need to account for multiple pressures on ecosystems. Trends in multiple metrics that respond differently to changes in major environmental pressures need to be combined to evaluate the impacts of fishing and environmental changes on fish communities. 2. An exploited fish community is viewed as a three-level food chain in which the two upper levels, or functional groups, are targeted by fishing fleets, while the lowest level is subject to environmental variation. Qualitative modelling is used to predict changes at the two upper levels, that is, top-down vs. bottom-up perturbations. Abundance and length metrics are calculated from survey data for 14 Mediterranean and... |

On French coast, Manila clam is a bivalve subject of a large activity recreational and professional hand harvest. Two species are represented in France, European Manila clam Ruditapes decussatus (native) and Japanese Manila clam Ruditapes philippinarum (introduced). Predominance of this last species (more than 90 % of number and biomass), earn them the status of invasive species. Contrary to Arcachon bay, Pont l’Abbé River or Morbihan bay, an estimation campaign of Manila clams stock on Marennes-Oléron bay had never been carried out. The objective of this study: estimate, in number and biomass, the Manila clams stock of two areas. The first affect recreational hand harvest, on Saint-Trojan shore (0.8 km²) whereas the second scopes professional hand... |

A state of the French Atlantic marine fauna of the Torpediniformes or electric ray (1 family : 3 species), of the Rajiformes or ray and skate (1 family : 18(19) species) and of the Myliobatiformes or syingray, butterfly ray, eagle ray…(3 families : 6 species) is given. In the Bay of Biscay, the large skates which were common in the past, are almost extinct nowadays. The rays living exclusively on the continental shelf area, the most frequented by fishermen, are now endangered. |
