The seasonal climate drivers of the carbon cy- cle in tropical forests remain poorly known, although these forests account for more carbon assimilation and storage than any other terrestrial ecosystem. Based on a unique combina- tion of seasonal pan-tropical data sets from 89 experimental sites (68 include aboveground wood productivity measure- ments and 35 litter productivity measurements), their asso- ciated canopy photosynthetic capacity (enhanced vegetation index, EVI) and climate, we ask how carbon assimilation and aboveground allocation are related to climate seasonal- ity in tropical forests and how they interact in the seasonal carbon cycle. We found that canopy photosynthetic capacity seasonality responds positively to precipitation when rain-... |

This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of polymer used with different nitrogen and potassium sources on the growth and nutrition of chrysanthemum (Dendranthema grandiforum, var. "Virginal") and on chemical characteristics of substrate. Two substrates were evaluated: 1) composite with 50 % organic soil, 45 % sand, and 5 % composted tobacco; 2) plow layer soil (0-20 cm depth; red oxisol typical dystrophic). The experimental design was a factorial (4x2x2) and included four polymer rates (0, 1, 2, and 4 g kg-1of substrate), two nitrogen ((NH4)2SO4 and (H2N)2CO), and two potassium (KCl and K2SO4) sources. Dry biomass, flower number, and concentration of K, Ca, and Mg were evaluated. Inverse relationships between polymer rates and plant biomass,... |

The land use change characterized by the conversion of native vegetation and forests to pastures and agricultural crops is one of the biggest drivers of deforestation in tropical regions. At the expense of expanding livestock production and soybeans cultivation, the Amazon and Cerrado biomes in Brazil suffer from accelerated deforestation and losses of biodiversity. The state of Mato Grosso is one of the largest agricultural frontiers in the world and is one of the largest producers of commodities in the country. For understand this land use dynamics, the objective of this work was to evaluate the historic of land use in the state of Mato Grosso (1985 to 2019), using data from Mapbiomas. Thus, it was produced maps representing use in the years 1985 and... |

Most studies on crop responses to Cr toxicity lack using acidic growing medium in order to maximize Cr uptake and taking measures to prevent Cr-induced Fe deficiency. Also, the evaluation of protein profiles is still to be carried out in association with physiological responses to Cr stress. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of Cr3+ on the physiology and protein profiles of Feenriched palisadegrass seedlings in an acidic nutrient solution under controlled conditions. Following 30 days of continuous stress, a sharp reduction in leaf area was the most evident alteration caused by Cr3+ stress, while a tendency of depressing effects was observed in the other physiological variables. Nutrient solution acidity had no significant effect,... |

Eucalyptus benthamii is a tree species commonly planted in subtropical areas, including the Southern Brazil, due to its tolerance to low temperatures and frosts. The success of E. benthamii plantation depends on the seedlings vigor during transplantation. We hypothesized that improvement of chemical and biological properties of growth substrate would produce more vigorous E. benthamii seedlings. Thus, we applied increasing doses (0, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 g per seedling) of the organic fertilizer Bacsol, which carries a consortium of potential plant growth promoting microorganisms, on the substrate, and measured the growth and development of E. benthamii seedlings. Two experiments were performed in 2011 and 2012. The first experiment included measurements... |
