Distribution of weedy red rice (Oryza sativa) resistant to Imidazolinone herbicides and its relationship to rice cultivars and wild Oryza species. Repositório Alice
GOULART, I. C. G. R.; BORBA, T. C. O.; MENEZES, V. G.; MEROTTO JUNIOR, A..
Several weedy red rice populations have evolved resistance to imidazolinone herbicides worldwide. The understanding of the factors related to the herbicide resistance in weedy red rice is important to prevent its occurrence in new areas where imidazolinone-resistant rice cultivars are being used, and to manage the new rice cultivars resistant to herbicides with modes of action other than the acetolactate synthase (ALS)-inhibitors that are being developed. The objectives of this study were to analyze the relationship of weedy red rice populations from southern Brazil with rice cultivars and wild Oryza species and to evaluate the occurrence of introgression from rice cultivars and seed migration as the origin of resistance to imidazolinone herbicides in...

This study evaluated the effect of reduced water intake on survival, apoptosis and immunoexpression of leptin in sheep preantral follicles, activation of primordial follicles, serum levels of leptin, estradiol (E2) and progesterone (P4), and in vitro maturation (IVM) of oocytes antral follicles, as well evaluated the effects of leptin on in vitro culture of secondary follicles isolated these animals. Ewes (n = 32) were divided into four groups: water ad libitum (Control ? 100%), 80%; 60% and 40% of ad libitum intake. Blood was collected to determine, leptin, E2 and P4, before and after experiment. After the slaughter, ovarian cortex was used to histological and immunohistochemistry analysis and oocytes IVM. Moreover, isolated secondary follicles were...

Evolutionary and social consequences of introgression of nontransgenic herbicide resistance from rice to weedy rice in Brazil. Repositório Alice
MEROTTO JUNIOR, A.; GOULART, I. C. G. dos R.; NUNES, A. L.; KALSING, A.; MARKUS, C.; MENEZES, V. G.; WANDER, A. E..
Several studies have expressed concerns about the effects of gene flow from transgenic herbicide-resistant crops to their wild relatives, but no major problems have been observed. This review describes a case study in which what has been feared in transgenics regarding gene flow has actually changed biodiversity and people?s lives. Nontransgenic imidazolinone-resistant rice (IMI-rice) cultivars increased the rice grain yield by 50% in southern Brazil. This increase was beneficial for life quality of the farmers and also improved the regional economy. However, weedy rice resistant to imidazolinone herbicides started to evolve three years after the first use of IMI-rice cultivars. Population genetic studies indicate that the herbicide- resistant weedy rice...

Immunolocalization of leptin and its receptor in the sheep ovary and in vitro effect of leptin on follicular development and oocyte maturation. Repositório Alice
MACEDO, T. J. S.; SANTOS, J. M. S.; BEZERRA, M. E. S.; MENEZES, V. G.; GOUVEIA, B. B.; BARBOSA, L. M. R.; LINS, T. L. B. G; MONTE, A. P. O.; BARBERINO, R. S.; BATISTA, A. M.; BARROS, V. R. P.; WISCHRAL, A.; QUEIROZ, M. A. A.; ARAUJO, G. G. L. de; MATOS, M. H. T..
The aims of the study were to characterize leptin and it is receptor (LEPR) proteins immunoexpression in ovine ovaries and to evaluate the effects of leptin on development of secondary follicles cultured in vitro. The ovaries were collected and fixed for immunohistochemical analysis. Additional pairs of ovaries were collected and secondary follicles were isolated and cultured, for 18 days, in α-MEM+ alone or supplemented with 10 or 25 ng/mL of leptin. The antrum formation and fully grown oocytes rates were higher in 25 ng/mL leptin than all treatments. GSH levels and mitochondrial activity were higher in 10 or 25 ng/mL leptin than α-MEM+. 25 ng/mL leptin showed a higher percentage of MII than the α-MEM+. In conclusion, leptin and...

Licuri oil improves feedlot performance and modifies ruminal fauna of Santa Inês ewes. Repositório Alice
CAVALCANTI, C. P. L.; MACEDO, T. J. S. e; GOIS, G. C.; MENEZES, V. G.; MONTE, A. P. O. do; SILVA, A. D. da; SILVA, D. J. M. da; SILVA, E. O. da; ARAUJO, G. G. L. de; RODRIGUES, R. T. de S.; WISCHRAL, A.; MATOS, M. H. T. de; QUEIROZ, M. A. A..
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of inclusion of licuri oil on intake, digestibility, ingestive behavior, rumen protozoa population, and productive performance of Santa In?es ewe. Thirty-two Santa In?es ewe (multiparous, non-lactating, 2?4 years old and 36.7 ± 0.87 kg body weight) were distributed in a randomized block design, receiving diets containing licuri oil (0, 2, 4, and 5% based on total dry matter) in partial replacement of ground corn (n = 8 per treatment). The inclusion of licuri oil promoted a quadratic effect for the intakes of dry matter (P = 0.008), and neutral detergent fiber (P = 0.004), dry matter digestibility (P = 0.004), ether extract (P < 0.0001), average daily gain (P = 0.01), rumination time (min/day; P = 0.039...

Reductions in the water supply to crossbred Santa Inês ewes in the Brazilian semi-arid: apparent nutrient digestibility, water and nitrogen balance, and performance. Repositório Alice
LIMA, P. R. de; ARAÚJO, C. de A.; CAMPOS, F. S.; MENEZES, V. G.; RIBEIRO, N. L.; ARAUJO, G. G. L. de; MENEZES, D. R.; MATOS, M. H. T. de; QUEIROZ, M. A. A.; SANTOS, E. M..
This study aimed to evaluate the intake and nutrient digestibility, water, and nitrogen balance of Santa In?es crossbred ewes under confinement receiving reductions in the water supply. Thirty-two Santa In?es crossbred ewes, at an average body weight of 32.2 ± 7.4 kg and age of 2.3 ± 0.99 years, were distributed in a completely randomized design, with four treatments, and eight animals per treatment, the treatments were 100%, 80%, 60%, and 40% of ad libitum water. Nutrient intake and digestibility, water and nitrogen balance, and perfor- mance were evaluated. The reductions in the water supply did not promote significant alterations, in the nutrient intake, or apparent digestibility of the animals (P > 0.05). A linear decreasing effect was observed for...
