This document summaries the major findings about the diet of whiting Merlangius merlangus in the English Channel, in the framework of the VARITROPH project. Whiting diet is based on several main preys, with an ontogenic variation. Individuals lower than 30 cm mostly fed on crustaceans, while diet of larger individuals is based on cephalopods and fishes. As a result, trophic level show 2 phases, one increasing at the early life stages, and a constant trophic level for individuals larger than 30 cm. |
