Dermatosparaxis in two White Doper lambs in Brazil: case report Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Silva,A.P.C.; Mol,J.P.S.; Carvalho Junior,C.A.; Paixão,T.A.; Santos,R.L..
Dermatosparaxis is a genetic disease that affects collagen maturation. This disease is characterized by marked impairment of the resistance of collagen fibers that leads to skin fragility, and it may affect several species. This is the first report of dermatosparaxis in sheep in Brazil. Clinically, two White Dorper lambs had multiple skin lacerations in the neck, dorsum and limbs. Transmission microscopy demonstrated irregular collagen fibers arranged in hieroglyphic shape and scanning electron microscopy demonstrated thin collagen fibrils that were not arranged in bundles as observed in the normal dermis. These findings are consistent with the diagnosis of dermatosparaxis.

Indirect ELISA for diagnosis of Brucella ovis infection in rams Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
França,S.A.; Mol,J.P.S.; Costa,E.A.; Silva,A.P.C.; Xavier,M.N.; Tsolis,R.M.; Reis,J.K.P.; Paixão,T.A.; Santos,R.L..
Brucella ovis is a major cause of epididymitis in sexually mature rams, resulting in subfertility, infertility, and economic losses for the sheep industry worldwide. The aim of this study was to develop an indirect ELISA (iELISA) using recombinant proteins, namely rBoP59 and rBP26, as antigens for serological diagnosis of B. ovisinfection. The BoP59 and BP26 recombinant proteins were expressed in E. coli and purified by affinity chromatography. Antigenicity was tested by Western blot and iELISA. Standardization of iELISA was performed with 500ng and 1µg BoP59 and rBP26 per well, testing serum from uninfected and experimentally infected rams. rBP26 was effective in distinguishing positive from negative rams. The rBP26 iELISA developed in this study is the...

Modelo experimental de endometrite em vacas inoculadas com Escherichia coli inativada por meio de infusão uterina Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Martins,T.M.; Santos,R.L.; Paixão,T.A.; Mol,J.P.S.; Muniz,C.S.; Borges,Á.M..
The aim of this study was to evaluate the endometrial inflammatory response of nine Zebu cows inoculated through uterine infusion with 30 mL of inactivated Escherichia coli suspension (1 x 109 UFC/mL) and nine with 30 mL of sterile phosphate buffered saline. Endometrial biopsies were performed before and after the inoculations during estrus, and ten days later in the diestrus phase. Neutrophilic infiltrates were observed in 88.8% of samples from the E. coli group in estrus phase and demonstrated different degrees of endometrial inflammation. This study characterizes a suitable model for studying endometritis in cattle.
