Canine lacrimal and third eyelid superficial glands’ macroscopic and morphometric characteristics Ciência Rural
Cabral,Vânia Pais; Laus,José Luiz; Dagli,Maria Lúcia Zaidan; Pereira,Gener Tadeu; Talieri,Ivia Carmem; Monteiro,Eduardo Raposo; Mamede,Fabrício Villela.
The lacrimal and third eyelid superficial glands produce the aqueous component of the preocular tear film. In this research, morphologic and morphometric assessments of the parenchyma and stroma of both lacrimal glands of healthy adult mongrel dogs were performed. Both lacrimal and third eyelid glands of fourteen dogs were collected, summing fifty-six samples. The macroscopic and morphometric data were statistically analyzed, according to the glandular type (lacrimal and third eyelid superficial glands) and sexual dimorphism (male or female). The lacrimal glands were significantly larger and longer than the superficial glands of the third eyelid. Expressive morphometric differences of interlobular duct, lymphocytic infiltration, interlobular vessels and...

Influence of acepromazine on the cardiovascular actions of dobutamine in isoflurane-anesthetized horses Ciência Rural
Monteiro,Eduardo Raposo; Souza,Juliano Ferreira Fernandes de; Baiotto,Gustavo Cancian; Figueiró,Giuliano Moraes; Rangel,Julia da Penha Piccoli; Coelho,Clarisse Simões.
The influence of acepromazine (ACP) on the effectiveness of dobutamine (DBT) in increasing blood pressure during isoflurane (ISO) anesthesia was evaluated in six horses. On separate occasions, the horses were randomly assigned to receive NaCl 0.9% (Control), ACP 0.025mg kg-1 and ACP 0.05mg kg-1. The experimental treatment was administered prior to induction of anesthesia. Maintenance of anesthesia was performed under conditions of normocapnia with ISO in oxygen. Dobutamine was administered at progressively increasing infusion rates until mean arterial pressure (MAP) reached 70mmHg or until a maximum infusion rate of 5.0µg kg-1 min-1. Compared with baseline, DBT increased heart rate, systolic, diastolic and mean blood pressures in all treatments. However,...

Minimum alveolar concentration of isoflurane in dogs administered a single intramuscular injection of racemic or S (+)-ketamine after premedication with acepromazine-morphine Ciência Rural
Bressan,Thais Feres; Monteiro,Eduardo Raposo; Coelho,Karina; Monteiro,Betânia Souza; Campagnol,Daniela.
ABSTRACT: The present study evaluated the minimum alveolar concentration of isoflurane (ISOMAC) in twenty three dogs premedicated with acepromazine (0.02mgkg-1) and morphine (0.5mgkg-1) and administered racemic (RK) or S(+)-ketamine (SK). Dogs randomly received a single dose (3mgkg-1, IM) of either RK or SK 15minutes after anesthetic induction with propofol. The ISOMAC was determined by the up-and-down method. Approximately 20 minutes after administration of RK or SK, a surgical noxious stimulus was applied and the response evaluated. The ISOMAC was 0.50±0.01% in the RK group (n=10) and 0.31±0.04% in the SK group (n=13). The ISOMAC was 38% lower in the SK group compared to the RK group. Results of the present study revealed that in dogs premedicated with...

Becerra,José Ricardo Herrera; Tisotti,Tainor de Mesquita; Baier,Maria Eduarda; Leite-Filho,Ronaldo Viana; Mombach,Verônica Santos; Costa,Fernanda Vieira Amorim da; Monteiro,Eduardo Raposo.
ABSTRACT: This study compared the accuracy of dye placement on the maxillary nerve by using the percutaneous subzigomatic (SBZ) and infraorbitary (IO) approaches in cats’ cadavers. A second aim was to compare the accuracy of dye placement on the maxillary nerve between different untrained anesthetists. This was a prospective, randomized, blinded study, performed in 40 heads obtained from feline cadavers. Three veterinarians (A, B and C) with no previous experience with the IO approach performed the experiments. The SBZ approach was randomly performed on one side of the head and the IO approach was performed in the contralateral side of the same head. For each approach, 0.2ml of 1% methylene blue dye was injected. Scores for length of nerve staining were as...
