20 Jahre Modellbetrieb für Ökolandbau in Müncheberg. Teil 1: Entwicklung von Humus- und Nährstoffgehalten Organic Eprints
Bachinger, Johann; Bloch, Ralf; Reckling, Moritz; Stein-Bachinger, Karin.

Organic Eprints
Reckling, Moritz; Döring, Thomas F.; Bloch, Ralf; Stein-Bachinger, Karin; Bachinger, Johann.

Application of Internal Control Systems in Organic Export Companies: Two Case Studies from Uganda Organic Eprints
Reckling, Moritz; Preißel, Sara.
The organic agricultural sector of Uganda is considered the most developed in Africa with a total of 296,203 ha organic certified land and the most certified organic producers worldwide (206,800), 90% of whom are small scale farmers. They are certified organic under contract production by export and processing companies, using an Internal Control System (ICS) as a group certification scheme defined by IFOAM (2004). The ICS is a viable and well accepted tool to certify small scale producers in developing countries all over the world. In Uganda however, certification difficulties are stated among the main constraints for the organic sector development. Therefore, a qualitative study was conducted from June to August 2008 that aimed at better understanding...

Ecological Recycling Agriculture to Enhance Agro-Ecosystem Services in the Baltic Sea Region: Guidelines for Implementation Organic Eprints
Stein-Bachinger, Karin; Reckling, Moritz; Bachinger, Johann; Hufnagel, Johannes; Wijnand, Koker; Granstedt, Artur.
Eutrophication caused by agriculture is an increasing ecological threat to the Baltic Sea. Modern, resource-efficient farming systems based on integrated plant and animal production, effective nutrient recycling and low external inputs can enhance multiple agro-ecosystem services, resulting in reduced pollution. Practical examples of such farming systems are not widespread. Therefore, the Baltic Ecological Recycling Agriculture and Society (BERAS) Implementation project aimed to foster this systemic shift. In this paper, agronomic strategies are described to improve nitrogen (N) efficiency for the conversion to ecological recycling agriculture (ERA). First, N farm gate balances of 22 farms in conversion are presented. They showed a large variation...

Nitrogen budget calculator. A tool to calculate N-budgets in organic forage systems Organic Eprints
Reckling, Moritz; Stein-Bachinger, Karin; Bachinger, Johann.
The purpose of the tool is to help farmers in estimating the N content of forages based on the percentage of legumes, the management and harvesting method. It is based on an Excell file that uses two databases containing information on site specific forages. It is a Decision Support Tool (DSS) in 2 languages, easy and fast to use. It is complemented by other tools (on crop rotation, legume content estimation) available on the web page and by other information materials. To go to the tool please go to "Software Tools Ökolandbau" and then "Stickstoff-SaldoRechner". To Switch to the German version, go to the top of the page and click on "DE".

Optimierung des Soja- und Lupinenanbaus in Ostdeutschland: Ergebnisse aus On-Farm Demonstrationen Organic Eprints
Reckling, Moritz; Jäckel, Ulf; Wolf, L.; Gefrom, A.; Bloch, R.; Bergkvist, R.; Bachinger, J..
Grain legumes provide several ecosystem services, but their cultivation declined during the last fifty years. New strategies are needed to optimize their production. This study used on-farm demonstrations on organic farms in Eastern Germany to identify improved management options for soybean and narrow-leafed lupin. For soybean the focus was on finding suitable varieties and tillage systems. For lupin, hoeing between rows was identified as an effective weed control method. Gross margin calculations showed that soybean has the potential as a new grain legume crop in Eastern Germany. Large amounts of soil mineral nitrogen after soybean harvest in 2015 indicate a risk of substantial nitrate leaching. The action research approach provided new agronomic...

Potenziale des Sojabohnenanbaus in Nord-Ostdeutschland: Einfluss von Beregnung und Sojasorte auf Ertrag, N2-Fixierung und Vorfruchtwirkung Organic Eprints
Reckling, Moritz; Bachinger, Johann; Bellingrath-Kimura, Sonoko Dorothea.

Reckling, Moritz; Stein-Bachinger, Karin; Bachinger, Johann.
The ecological status of the Baltic Sea is endangered. The high nutrient surplus from intensive agriculture is the main reason for the pollution. In a joint project with all countries around the Baltic Sea, the EU funded project BERAS Implementation (Baltic Ecological Recycling Agriculture and Society) supports the conversion to ecological recycling agriculture (ERA) to ensure a sustainable protection of the Baltic Sea. The project aims to stimulate exchange of knowledge and experiences across countries, to build a network of experts including stakeholders from science, advisory services, ministries, and the food sector and to enhance the demand for organic products. Practical guidelines and software-tools were developed to support farmers in the...
