| ABSTRACT In the Brazilian Cerrado biome, there are wetlands locally known as “Veredas”, which are swampy plains between hills and rivers. Since the 1970’s, the Cerrado biome has been gradually converted to livestock, crop, or forestry production. Until now, very few studies were conducted to evaluate the baseline contents of trace elements in Cerrado wetland soils. Due to their position in the landscape (bottom lands), the wetlands are potentially susceptible to contamination by runoff and/or leaching from surrounding areas at higher altitudes. | Objetivou-se, neste trabalho, quantificar o efeito da vinhaça no comportamento compressivo e nos atributos mecânicos, como consistência, umidade ótima de compactação e densidade máxima, de um Latossolo Vermelho-Amarelo (LVA); avaliar o efeito da vinhaça e do estado de compactação no salpicamento de partículas, da região de Lavras, MG. A vinhaça foi proveniente de um alambique de cachaça artesanal. Foram coletadas amostras deformadas e indeformadas nas profundidades de 0 a 3 cm e 60 a 63 cm. Visando contribuir para o planejamento da agricultura irrigada, este trabalho teve como objetivos comparar distribuições de probabilidade ajustadas às séries históricas decendiais e mensais, e estimar as precipitações prováveis para o município de Barbacena, MG. | ABSTRACT Portable X-ray fluorescence (pXRF) analysis can be considered one of the main recent advances for chemical characterization of earth materials. The water content of the samples can affect the pXRF performance. As a novelty, we aimed to establish relationships (linear regression) between the effect of water content on pXRF results and atomic number (Z) of the elements. Three certified reference materials (CRM) were investigated: OREAS 100a, OREAS 101a, and OREAS 101b. These materials were saturated (0.68 g g-1) with distilled water and left to air-dry naturally. | Recentemente, tem ocorrido um grande aumento na produção de aves, com destaque para a carne de peru, motivado pelo aumento das exportações e a conquista de novos mercados. Como conseqüência, tem sido gerada uma grande quantidade de resíduos orgânicos com potencial impacto sobre o ambiente. | Vinasse is produced at high amounts by the ethanol and sugarcane spirits industries. Although the effects of vinasse on soil attributes are well elucidated, little is known about its effects on sorption and leaching of lead (Pb) from soils. This work evaluated the Pb sorption and leaching from disturbed topsoil samples (0-20 cm) of an Inceptisol, under the influence of sugarcane vinasse. Pb sorption was evaluated by batch sorption method, using air-dried samples (< 2 mm) treated with pure (100%), and diluted (20%, and 50%) vinasse. | The aim of this work was to compare aggregate disruption of undisturbed soil samples by ultrasonic energy to aggregate disruption caused by the energy of simulated raindrops, to provide equations that can describe this relationship, and to evaluate whether aggregate stability, expressed by sonication method, may be used to estimate the effect that raindrops have on undisturbed soil samples.
