The diggerwasp Passaloecus brevilabris new to the Dutch fauna (Hymenoptera: Crabronidae) In the summer of 2002 a new diggerwasp for the Netherlands was found by the author, north of Herkenbosch (province of Limburg) at the edge of a forest consisting mainly of pine Pinus sylvestris and oak Quercus robur. Females of Passaloecus brevilabris can be recognised by their truncated and fully haired clypeus in combination with a short labrum that lacks the small distal lobe which is present in most related species. The species is known from several European countries, ranging from Scandinavia to France, although only in small numbers. |
