Induction of cervical dilation allows efficient non-surgical embryo recovery, depending on the sheep breed, and thus its usefulness needs to be assessed in each breed. This study checked the efficiency of two estrus induction treatments and the feasibility of transcervical embryo recovery in Lacaune ewes. In conclusion, both estrous induction treatments showed a high rate of estrus and ovulation, but the dosage of 400 IU of eCG seems excessive. The protocol for cervical relaxation was efficient to allow the transcervical embryo recovery of Lacaune ewes. |

The genus Theobroma comprises several trees species native to the Amazon. Theobroma cacao L. plays a key economic role mainly in the chocolate industry. Both cultivated and wild forms are described within the genus. Variations in genome size and chromosome number have been used for prediction purposes including the frequency of interspecific hybridization or inference about evolutionary relationships. In this study, the nuclear DNA content, karyotype and genetic diversity using functional microsatellites (EST-SSR) of seven Theobroma species were characterized. The nuclear content of DNA for all analyzed Theobroma species was 1C = ~ 0.46 pg. These species presented 2n = 20 with small chromosomes and only one pair of terminal heterochromatic bands positively... |

We measure performance for the Brazilian agriculture by means of free disposal hull (FDH) measures of technical efficiency. Measurements are conditional on contextual variables that may be responsible for market imperfection variables. The production frontier is generated by a product probability measure. Production observations are aggre gated by county and analyzed by region. The efficiency measure is output oriented and assumes variable returns to scale. Output is rural gross income and inputs are land expenses, labor expenses and expenses on other technological inputs. The covariates for production are credit, technical assistance, social, environmental, and demographic indicators and income concentration, measured by the Gini index. Overall Brazilian... |

Passiflora L. has around 500 species mainly distributed in the Neotropics. The genus shows different basic chromosome numbers associated to different subgenus (x = 6, 9 and 12) and high variation in genome size. |

Abstract: The degree of completeness and interdigitation of the cervical rings affects cervical passage, which is a necessary step for transcervical embryo collection. This study assessed the use of cervical ultrasonography (US) to select the most suitable animals for transcervical embryo collections. In conclusion, US cervical evaluation allows estimating the number of rings, and the ranking of animals by US cervical misalignment, making possible to select animals suitable for transcervical embryo collection. |
