The objective of this study was to evaluate the performance, adaptability and stability of corn cultivars simultaneously in unbalanced experiments, using the method of harmonic means of the relative performance of genetic values. The grain yield of 45 cultivars, including hybrids and varieties, was evaluated in 49 environments in two growing seasons. In the 2007/2008 growing season, 36 cultivars were evaluated and in 2008/2009 25 cultivars, of which 16 were used in both seasons. Statistical analyses were performed based on mixed models, considering genotpes as random and replications within environments as fixed factors. The experimental precision in the combined analyses was high (accuracy estimates > 92 %). Despite the existence of genotype x... |

Records on 105 465 Nellore calves born from 1977 to 1994 in eight regions of Brazil were studied to evaluate the effects fo genotype x environment interaction on weaning weight calves. Teh interactions were estimated by the genetic correlation of weaning weight in defferent regions. To eastimate the variance and covariance components to obtain the genetic correlation of weaning weight under different regions, a sire model and MTDFREML solftware wereused for two regions each time. The matematical model included the fixed effects of year(17) and month(12),sex(2) of calf, farm(419) and age of dam (covarable), and the random effect of sire(588) and dam (57 162). The sire components of variance for each of the regions where 20.33,28.08,17.72,29.80,34.36, 38.08,... |

Abstract: Among the many implications of climatic change on agriculture, drought is expected to continue to have a major impact on agribusinesses. Leaf curling is an anatomical characteristic that might be potentially used to enhance plant tolerance to water deficit. Hence, we aimed to study the genetic control of leaf curl in maize. From 2 contrasting inbred lines for the trait, generations F1 , F2 , and the backcrosses were obtained. All of these generations were evaluated in a randomized block design with 2 replicates. Leaf curl samples were collected from 3 leaves above the first ear at the tasseling stage, and quantified by dividing the width of the leaf blade with natural curling against its extended width. The mean and variance components were... |
