The grevilea, Grevillea robusta (Cunn), species of the Proteaceae family, native of Australia it was introduced in Brazil and in several other countries of the world, for ornamentation, wind breaks and to shade agricultural crops. In general the grevilea has few pests in its area of natural dispersion and also in Brazil. Recently a severe infestation of the cicada Aethalion reticulatum (Hemiptera: Aethalionidae) was verified in experimental plantings of grevilea’s plantation in São Miguel Arcanjo, SP. This is the first verification of A. reticulatum causing damages to G. robusta. A. reticulatum is an sap sucking insect and the damages in grevilea are similar to the observed in fruit plants. |

The application of cellulosic waste in forest plantations is an alternative to disposal, but more studies are necessary to confirm the safity of this disposal. The response of Pinus taeda L. to salinity in Humic Distrocryept was evaluated. In plantation, the seedlings were assessed for their height and stem diameter (SD), and at 120 days, were assessed the SD, height, dried root biomass (DRB), shoot (DBS) and total dried matter (TDM). The contents of P, K, Ca, Mg and Na were determinated, and, based on these levels it was estimated the quantity of these elements and calculated the efficiency use in leaves and roots and translocation to the shoot. Except the relationship between DSB/DRB, the other variables were significantly influenced by increased... |

The aim of this work was to evaluate, in vase, the effect of cellulosic residue in soil and chemical characteristics of effluents resulting from that application in Litholic Humic Neosol layers collected in the 0 to 10 and 10 cm to 30 cm. Doses of sludge, equivalent to 0, 10, 20, 40 and 80 Mg ha-1 were implanted in a randomized design. Aliquots corresponding to doses of sludge, collected on the treatment were mixed to the soil layer of 0 to 10 cm and placed in vessels after the completion of the soil layer from 10 cm to 30 cm. At 117 days after implantation of the test, samples were collected from the soil layer from 0 to 20 cm and from the effluent resulting from the application of water for irrigation. The treatments changed the characteristics... |

Eucalyptus benthamii has shown to be the most proeminent specie for regions with frost incidence. The objective of this work was to classify selected Eucalyptus benthamii trees for breeding by importance ordening dendrometric and energetic characteristics, useful for this work 91 disks of DBH were collected, from three plantations at Guarapuava municipality, Parana state, with geographical coordinates 25º 23’ 26’’ S e 51º 27’ 15” E and 1,120 m high. Wood basic density, volume, mass, superior calorific power, energertic density and energetic potential were evaluated. Charcoal yield, condensed and non-condensable gases, fixed carbon, volatiles, ashes, superior calorific power and energetic potential were also evaluated. From the measured characteristics, at... |

Neste... |

This paper presents the results of the adjustment of equations for estimating biomass of aerial compartments of Eucalyptus benthamii trees. The percentile allocation of biomass, in the compartments wood, bark, leaves and branches is also presented. The trees of Eucalyptus benthamii were sampled from stands of 12, 24, 36 and 48 months of age, planted at the spacing 3 m x 2 m, in the region of Guarapuava-PR. For the compartments considered, the generalized logarithmic model gave better indices of adjustment for branches and, together with logarithmic combined variable, the minor error for bark variable. Leaves and wood had minor error with model lnY=b0 +b1*lnDBH and logarithmic combined variable, respectively. The allocation of biomass in the different... |

The aim of this work was to evaluate the seedling growth of Eucalyptus badjensis Beuzev. & Welch in substrata prepared from different residues: pulp and paper mill wastes (organic sludge and cellulose mill liquid alkaline liquor), brewery malt and also goat manure. The experiment was carried out in the seedlings nursery of the Embrapa Florestas, in Colombo, Paraná. The organic sludge, cellulose mill liquid alkaline liquor and the brewer’s grain were previously composted with sawdust, and goat dung with pinus bark. A randomized blocks design with split-plot arrangement, with four replications was used. Plot treatments were the substrata and split-plot were base fertilization (with and without): 1) mixture of a commercial substratum prepared with... |

Large quantities of organic wastes are produced mainly in big cities, annually. There is urgent demand for safe and possible economic practices for its use on forest plantations. This study evaluated the effects of the application of urban waste and mineral fertilizers on Eucalyptus grandis W. Hill ex Maiden plantation growing on Neossolo Quartzarênico, analyzing nutrient contents in the litter and in the above ground biomass of trees at 86 months old. The results showed that those plots that received organic wastes presented biomass increments of 36.9 % and largest contents of N, P, K and Ca, 86 months after the establishment. After harvesting, largest nutrient pools remained on those same plots (18 % to 49 %), contributing significantly to maintain... |

Acacia mearnsii is the third forest species more planted in Brazil, especially in small farms at Rio Grande do Sul State. The species is also known as black wattle and is important as a source of tannin, timber, pulpwood and rayon. Its fast growth results in high demand of nutrients and fertilization is necessary to keep site productivity. In this paper it is reported the results of the application of four doses of Phosphorous (0, 20, 40, 80g/tree as P2O5) and three of Potassium (0, 20, 40g/tree as K2O), in a factorial designed trial established on a chemically poor soil at the region of Ponta Grossa, State of Paraná, Brazil. Trees were implanted in a 3m X 2m spacing with 35 plants per plot. The fertilizers were applied in furrows between the rows at the... |

This paper deals with the prognosis of the individual volumetric growth of Eucalyptus species in the Brazilian South Region. It was accomplished in a fertilizer trial with Eucalyptus dunnii and a competition trial among species (E. bicostata, E. “cambiju” - natural hybrid, E. deanei and E. viminalis) implanted in Vila Velha, PR. The method of successive regressions, modified to the exponential form, including the volume at three years of age and survival was applied. The results gave evidence of acceptable efficiency of the method to estimate individual volumetric growth of the trees of the stands, especially for E. deanei and E. dunnii, species well adapted to the region. However, species with low growth potential, for example E. bicostata, presented low... |

The aim of this work was to measure the effect of ash, collected from the boiler of a pulp mill and applied in doses equivalent to 0, 10, 20, 40 and 80 t.ha-1 on the chemical characteristics of the soil and on the development and absorption of nutrients for Pinus taeda L. seedling potted with CAMBISSOLO Humico from the 0-20 cm layer in Piraí do Sul, PR. Portions of the soil were placed in pots and aliquots of each treatment were applied to the first 0-10 cm layer after filled the pots with 20 cm of soil. Needles and soil (0-10, 10-20 and 20-30 cm layers) were analyzed. The height, diameter and dried biomass of aerial part, the root - MSR and total were evaluated. The application of ash reduced the acidity and the concentration of Al, and increased the... |
