| We conducted a study in a cross-border region of Amazonia to analyze the future role of natural forests in producing wood products. French Guiana and the state of Amapa are sharing similar geographical properties. A predominant area of these two territories are dominated by undisturbed tropical forests. In both regions, over 70% of forest areas is under public ownership. Currently the forestry sector in both regions do not have a key role in local economies, with low legal wood production in French Guiana (75 000 m3) as well as in Amapa (around 120 000 m3). Although in Amapá there is a high level of illegality in the sector (85%). | Large-scale agriculture is increasing in anthropogenically modified areas in the Amazon Basin. Crops such as soybean, maize, oil palm, and others are being introduced to supply the world demand for food and energy. However, the current challenge is to enhance the sustainability of these areas by increasing efficiency of production chains and to improve environmental services. | O objetivo deste estudo foi caracterizar a composição florística e a diversidade da vegetação espontânea em um sistema silvicultural, 33 anos após o plantio na região do Tapajós, visando estabelecer métodos sustentáveis para recomposição da Reserva Legal. Analisou-se a estrutura horizontal e a diversidade da vegetação espontânea. Foram identificados 483 indivíduos pertencentes a 81 espécies, 63 gêneros e 32 famílias. O Índice de Shannon- Weaver encontrado foi 3,72. Conclui-se que a vegetação espontânea estabelecida na área apresenta elevada riqueza e diversidade de espécies, evidenciando que o sistema silvicultural analisado é uma alternativa viável, podendo ser utilizado para a recomposição e manejo de Reserva Legal. |

| O estudo teve como objetivo analisar a composição florística e as estruturas horizontal, interna e diamétrica da floresta. A pesquisa foi conduzida na Unidade de Manejo Florestal (UMF) da Fazenda Tracajás (02o35?53?S e 47o47?10?W), Município de Paragominas, Estado do Pará, Brasil. A floresta foi estratificada em três áreas homogêneas, denominadas classes I, II e III de estoques volumétricos, empregando-se análise multivariada: análises de agrupamento e discriminante. Em cada classe de estoque foram instaladas, aleatoriamente, cinco parcelas de 100 x 100 m (1,0 ha) cada uma, para medição dos indivíduos com dap ? 15 cm.
