A simple empirical band-ratio algorithm to assess suspended particulate matter from remote sensing over coastal and inland waters of Vietnam: application to the VNREDSat-1/NAOMI sensor ArchiMer
Dinh Ngoc, Dat; Loisel, Hubert; Vantrepotte, Vincent; Chu Xuan, Huy; Nguyen Minh, Ngoc; Verpoorter, Charles; Meriaux, Xavier; Thi Minh, Hanh Pham; Le Thi, Huong; Le Vu Hong, Hai; Nguyen Van, Thao.
VNREDSat-1 is the first Vietnamese satellite enabling the survey of environmental parameters such as vegetation and water coverages, or surface water quality at medium spatial resolution (from 2.5 to 10 meters depending on the considered channel). The NAOMI sensor on board VNREDSat-1 has the required spectral bands to assess the suspended particulate matter concentration, SPM. Because recent studies have shown that the remote sensing reflectance, Rrs(ƒÜ), at the blue (450 ¡V 520 nm), green (530 ¡V 600 nm), and red (620 ¡V 690 nm) spectral bands can be assessed from NAOMI with a good accuracy, the present study is dedicated to the development and validation of an algorithm (hereafter referred to as V1SPM) to assess SPM from Rrs(ƒÜ) over inland and coastal...

Cost-effective analysis of different algorithms for the diagnosis of hepatitis C virus infection BJMBR
Barreto,A.M.E.C.; Takei,K.; E.C.,Sabino; Bellesa,M.A.O.; Salles,N.A.; Barreto,C.C.; Nishiya,A.S.; Chamone,D.F..
We compared the cost-benefit of two algorithms, recently proposed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, USA, with the conventional one, the most appropriate for the diagnosis of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection in the Brazilian population. Serum samples were obtained from 517 ELISA-positive or -inconclusive blood donors who had returned to Fundação Pró-Sangue/Hemocentro de São Paulo to confirm previous results. Algorithm A was based on signal-to-cut-off (s/co) ratio of ELISA anti-HCV samples that show s/co ratio ³95% concordance with immunoblot (IB) positivity. For algorithm B, reflex nucleic acid amplification testing by PCR was required for ELISA-positive or -inconclusive samples and IB for PCR-negative samples. For algorithm C, all...

Evaluation of empirical and semi-analytical chlorophyll algorithms in the Ligurian and North Tyrrhenian Seas ArchiMer
Lapucci, Chiara; Rella, Marina Ampolo; Brandini, Carlo; Ganzin, Nicolas; Gozzini, Bernardo; Maselli, Fabio; Massi, Luca; Nuccio, Caterina; Ortolani, Alberto; Trees, Charles.
The estimation of chlorophyll concentration in marine waters is fundamental for a number of scientific and practical purposes. Standard ocean color algorithms applicable to moderate resolution imaging spectroradiometer (MODIS) imagery, such as OC3M and MedOC3, are known to overestimate chlorophyll concentration ([CHL]) in Mediterranean oligotrophic waters. The performances of these algorithms are currently evaluated together with two relatively new algorithms, OC5 and SAM_LT, which make use of more of the spectral information of MODIS data. This evaluation exercise has been carried out using in situ data collected in the North Tyrrhenian and Ligurian Seas during three recent oceanographic campaigns. The four algorithms perform differently in Case 1 and...

Identification of acoustic parameters for broiler welfare estimate REA
Pereira,Erica M.; Nääs,Irenilza de A.; Garcia,Rodrigo G..
Estimates of broiler welfare have subjective character. Nowadays, researchers seek non-invasive features or indicators that may describe this condition in animal production. The aim of this study was to identify acoustic parameters to estimate broiler welfare using the following five vocalization acoustic parameters: energy, spectral centroid, bandwidth, first formant, and second formant. The database that generated the model was obtained from a field experiment with 432 broilers, which half were Cobb® and half, Ross® breed, from day 21 to 42, containing bird vocalizations under either welfare or stress conditions. The results of the experiment generated responses to the tested conditions of gender, genetic strain, and welfare. The proposed model was based...

INTEGRATION OF A LOW-COST GLOBAL NAVIGATION SATELLITE SYSTEM TO A SINGLE-BOARD COMPUTER USING KALMAN FILTERING REA
Silva,Thales M. de A.; Mayrink,Grégory de O.; Valente,Domingos S. M.; Queiroz,Daniel M..
ABSTRACT The global navigation satellite system (GNSS) is the basis for localized crop management by allowing the georeferencing of collected data and the generation of maps by different systems that compose precision agriculture. There is a demand for low-cost navigation systems to enable their use in agriculture. Therefore, the objective of this study is to integrate a low-cost GNSS module to a single-board computer using Kalman filtering to obtain navigation data. The system was evaluated by performing one static and two kinematic experiments, with three repetitions each. In the static experiment, the mean error was 3.25 m with a root mean square error (RMSE) of 3.73 m. In the first kinematic experiment, data variability was lower at a velocity of 1.39...

Minimização do custo de produção como critério na formulação de dietas para bovinos de corte. Infoteca-e
BARIONI, L. G.; LANNA, D. P.; TEDESCHI, L. O.; VELOSO, R. F..
Um...

Soybean crop area estimation by Modis/Evi data PAB
Gusso,Anibal; Formaggio,Antônio Roberto; Rizzi,Rodrigo; Adami,Marcos; Rudorff,Bernardo Friedrich Theodor.
The objective of this work was to develop a procedure to estimate soybean crop areas in Rio Grande do Sul state, Brazil. Estimations were made based on the temporal profiles of the enhanced vegetation index (Evi) calculated from moderate resolution imaging spectroradiometer (Modis) images. The methodology developed for soybean classification was named Modis crop detection algorithm (MCDA). The MCDA provides soybean area estimates in December (first forecast), using images from the sowing period, and March (second forecast), using images from the sowing and maximum crop development periods. The results obtained by the MCDA were compared with the official estimates on soybean area of the Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística. The coefficients of...
