A study of the phytotoxic effects of the aerial parts of Senecio westermanii Dusén (Asteraceae) on Lactuca sativa L. and Allium cepa L. seeds BJPS

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of the ethanolic crude extracts and fractions of the species Senecio westermanii Dusén on Lactuca sativa L. (lettuce) and Allium cepa L. (onion) seeds. We assessed the germination, growth, root respiration and photosynthesis of the target species in Petri dishes (9.0 cm diameter) containing filter paper n°6. The study was conducted using 50 seeds per plate and held in 4 replicates per concentration of each sample. In the germination there was an inhibitory effect of fractions hexane (FH) and chloroform (FCl) at concentrations of 500 and 1000 µg/mL. We assessed the allelopathic effects of the aqueous extract of Sonchus oleraceus dry shoots on the germination and seedling growth of Trifolium alexandrinum, three weed species (Brassica nigra, Chenopodium murale and Melilotus indicus) and S. oleraceus itself. Allelopathic research in Brazil Acta Botanica

In this article, we review allelopathy studies conducted in Brazil or involving plant species that occur in the country. Conceptions and misconceptions associated with allelopathy, as well as some international criteria to be applied in allelopathic research, are presented and discussed. We observed a sharp increase in the number of papers on this subject conducted in Brazil between 1991 and 2010. However, most studies are conducted under laboratory conditions, lack a clear hypothesis or a solid justification, and typically make use of target species that do not co-exist with the donor species under natural conditions. A aveia (avena spp.) e uma das culturas mais importantes do Sul do Brasil durante a estacao hibernal de crescimento. Sabe-se que nela existem agentes alelopaticos, o que torna conviniente o entendimento deste fenomeno na cultura. Neste trabalho, buscou-se realizar uma estimativa do potencial alelopatico com base na analise da fase inicial (estabelecimento) do ciclo de diferentes genotipos de aveia, bem como na avaliacao de seus aleloquimicos. A partir da analise dos dados, verifica-se que os genotipos de aveia apresentam potencial alelopatico, e que UPF 13, UFRGS 9, UFRGS 10 e UFRGS 6 sao os que mostram maior efeito. Consumption of ferulic and p-hydroxybenzoic acids by soybean root tips BABT

Depletion method was used to describe how soybean root consumed ferulic and p-hydroxybenzoic acids in nutrient culture. The results showed that excised cultured soybean roots consumed these allelochemicals very rapidly. At concentrations between 0.1 and 1.0 mM, roots consumed 50% or more of ferulic acid after 6-h depletion. Although consumption started only after 3 h, similar behavior was verified with p-hydroxybenzoic acid.

Effects of fatty acids on carbohydrates and lipids of canola seeds during germination BABT

The present work was carried out to investigate the effects of caprylic acid (C8) and oleic acid (C18) on carbohydrates and lipids during canola seed germination. The results showed that oleic acid influence carbohydrate concentration but did not influence lipid concentration. Significant results were found with caprylic acid that affected carbohydrates and lipids in cotyledons after three-day germination.

ABSTRACT: The phytotoxic composition of Achyranthes aspera was identified through HPLC, and its herbicidal potential was investigated against two narrow leaf weeds viz., Phalaris minor Retz. and Avena fatua L.; and four broad leaf weeds viz. Lathyrus aphaca L., Vicia sativa L., Convolvolus arvensis L. and Asphodelus tenuifolius L. through bioassays. The objective of this study was to determine the effects of weather, predators and parasitoids, canopy height and plant age, leaf chemical composition, levels of leaf N and K and leaf trichomes on the intensity of Bemisia tabaci attack on Solanum melongena. A higher density of nymph and whitefly adults was recorded at the base and medium of the plant compared to the apex. A higher number of eggs was observed on the medium part than on the apical and base part of the plants dossel. An increase in the density of whitefly is associated with an increase in temperature.

Este trabalho objetivou determinar os efeitos da pluviosidade, da temperatura, da umidade relativa, dos predadores e parasitóides, da idade das plantas, dos compostos químicos foliares (cromatógrafo a gás acoplado a espectrômetro de massa - CG/EM), dos níveis de N e de K foliares sobre a intensidade do ataque de Bemisia tabaci biótipo B (Genn.) (Homoptera: Aleyrodidae) em pimentão (Capsicum annuum) var. Myr-10. As correntes totais de íons dos picos 28,178 min. (tempo de retenção) e 42,755 min. (tempo de retenção) correlacionaram-se positivamente com as ninfas e adultos da mosca-branca, respectivamente, e a corrente total de íons do pico 36,352 min. (tempo de retenção) correlacionou-se negativamente com ninfas deste inseto.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi determinar a herança da produção de acilaçúcares em genótipos de tomateiro, em uma população segregante (F2) do terceiro retrocruzamento, para Lycopersicon esculentum Mill. 'TOM-584', a partir da espécie L. pennellii 'LA-716'. A determinação do teor de acilaçúcares foi realizada com metodologia para determinação de açúcares redutores. Os dados foram utilizados para verificação da herança monogênica, sob diferentes graus de dominância (GD) presumidos, por meio do teste qui-quadrado.
