Evaluation of the use of PetrifilmTM EB count plates for the enumeration of Enterobacteriaceae in poultry samples Ciênc. Tecnol. Aliment.
Drebes,Tainá; Majolo,Cláudia; Fröder,Hans.
A test that is rapid, simple, accurate, not expensive, gives rapid results, and is sensitive enough to detect low levels of microorganisms would be the most suitable for food industry routine laboratories, or even for a public health laboratories. A ready-to-use alternative, commercially available method is the PetrifilmTM EB method. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether there is a statistically significant difference between the conventional methods based on Violet Red Bile Glucose Agar and the alternative 3M TM Petrifilm (EB) method for the enumeration of Enterobacteriaceae in poultry carcasses. This study also assessed whether the alternative method showed ability to produce results that were directly proportional to the concentration of the...

Somatic cell count obtained by Ekomilk Scan® and correlations with other methods of analysis Ciência Rural
Gonçalves,Ana Carolina Siqueira; Roma Júnior,Luiz Carlos; Privatti,Rafaela Torrezan; Salles,Márcia Saladini Vieira; Paz,Claudia Cristina Paro de; Zadra,Lenira El Faro; Vidal,Ana Maria Centola.
ABSTRACT: The study aimed to evaluate the equipment Ekomilk Scan® as an alternative to somatic cell count (SCC) in milk. For this individual cow milk samples of various ages and different stages of lactation in northeastern state of São Paulo region were collected. The analyzes performed were divided into variables related to the equipment: repeatability and reproducibility, and variables that could influencing the results as: use of preservatives, temperature, time between collection and analysis, breed and milk composition, besides analysis to relate the Ekomilk Scan® with the standard method-direct microscopy and reference-flow cytometry. As the result, for samples analysis, it shouldn’t be added preservative and these should be conducted on the same...

Use of dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry in non-ruminant nutrition research R. Bras. Zootec.
Pomar,Candido; Kipper,Marcos; Marcoux,Marcel.
ABSTRACT Precise body composition measurements are essential in animal nutrition studies because the impact of treatments is evaluated based on changes in body weight and composition. Various indirect techniques for animal compositional evaluation have been developed and evaluated for applicability in animal nutrition studies. A fast, accurate, minimally invasive method that requires little input is considered the ideal for providing information about the animal. Measurements obtained by dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) are highly correlated with those obtained by chemical analysis and dissection. The algorithms of DXA software partition the six chemical components of the body (lipids, water, proteins, carbohydrates, non-bone mineral, and bone...

Validation d’un procédé automatisé d’extraction sur phase solide de glandes digestives de moules pour l’identification et la quantification des dinophysistoxines en LC/ESI/SM2 par piégeage d’ions quadripolaire ArchiMer
Mondeguer, Florence; Mestres, Gilberte; Rouland, Caroline; Montagu, Monique; Maillols, Hélène.
This report presents a new extraction method of the dinophysistoxins (DTXs), confirmed by quantification using high-performance liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry with an ion trap and electro spray interface (HPLC/ESI/MS2). The method originality consists on the adaptation of DTXs basic extraction procedure (liquid/ liquid) to a solid phase extraction (SPE) via a robotic station: ASPEC XLi The parameters of the automatization procedure were optimized to obtain the best DTXs recovery rate. These improvements were loaded with digestive gland mussel homogenat realized on a silica cartridge SPE, activated in hexane/chloroform (50:50), washed with hexane/chloroform (50:50) and extracted by an elution gradient (chloroform methanol (65:35) and...
