Altered Kidney Morphology and Enzymes in Streptozotocin Induced Diabetic Rats International Journal of Morphology
Zafar,Muhammad; Naeem-ul-Hassan Naqvi,Syed; Ahmed,Masood; Kaimkhani,Zahid Ali.
We studied the effects of streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetes on kidney morphology, anatomy, architecture and on the activities of aminotransferases (AST and ALT), alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and pseudocholinesterase (PChE) in albino rats. The aim of the study was to investigate the association between diabetic kidney complications and kidney enzyme alterations. This study was performed in the Department of Anatomy and Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Baqai Medical University, Karachi and Pathology department of College of Physicians & Surgeons (CPSP) Pakistan in 2007-08. Diabetes was induced by a single dose of STZ (45 mg/kg, b.w.) given intraperitoneally in sodium citrate buffer at pH 4.5. Eighty (80) albino rats were divided into five...

Altered Liver Morphology and Enzymes in Streptozotocin Induced Diabetic Rats International Journal of Morphology
Zafar,Muhammad; Naeem-ul-Hassan Naqvi,Syed; Ahmed,Masood; Kaimkhani,Zahid Ali.
This study was undertaken to evaluate the relationship and effects of diabetes on liver morphology, architecture and function. The hepatic effects of diabetes were evaluated in vivo using streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats as an experimental model. The degree of hepatic dysfunction was measured by using biochemical parameters like serum transaminases (ALT and AST), alkaline phosphatase (ALP)and pseudocholinesterase (PChE) while the histopathological studies were carried out to support the enzymic Parameters. The aim of the study was to investigate the association between diabetic hepatic complications and liver enzyme alterations. This study was performed in the Department of Anatomy; Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Institute of...

Biochemical and cellularchanges in Oreochromis niloticus related to the water pollution of a degraded river - doi: 10.4025/actascibiolsci.v35i3.13207 Biological Sciences
Cruz, Zilma Maria Almeida; Universidade Vila Velha; Castro, Rodrigo Roque Lesqueves de; Universidade Vila Velha; Canal, Adriana; Azevedo Júnior, Romildo Rocha; Universidade Vila Velha; Silva, Ary Gomes da; Universidade Vila Velha; Ramos, Alessandro; Universidade Vila Velha.
The effects of polluted water at three sites in the Marinho River, Brazil, on Oreochromis niloticus (Nile tilápia) were investigated using histological, hematological and biochemical approaches. Fish exposed to the impacted water demonstrated that histological changes in gills were accompanied by nuclear and micronuclei abnormalities in cells. The activity of liver and plasma biomarkers (alkaline phosphatase (ALP), acid phosphatase (ACP), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and liver glutathione S-transferase (GST)) showed an expressive change due to the. The results were also correlated with the highest levels of Cu+2, Zn+2 and Mn+2 in the water. The data of this study evidenced the importance of using a set of biomarkers to...

Effect of naringerin on biochemical parameters in the streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats BABT
Fernandes,Ana Angélica Henrique; Novelli,Ethel Lourenzi Barbosa; Fernandes Junior,Ary; Galhardi,Cristiano Machado.
Amongst the numerous co-adjuvant therapies which could influence the incidence and progression of diabetic complications, antioxidants and flavonoids are currently being tested in clinical trials. We investigated the effect of naringerin on biochemical parameters in streptozotocin-induced (STZ - 60 mg/kg, i.p.) diabetic rats. Male rats were divided into four groups: G1: untreated controls; G2: normal rats receiving naringerin; G3: untreated diabetics; G4: diabetics rats receiving naringerin. The naringerin (50mg/kg, i.p,) decreased the hyperglycaemia and hyperlipidaemia associated with STZ-diabetes. The concentrations of serum insulin in treated diabetic rats tended to be increased. Naringerin treatment prevents STZ-induced changes in the activities of...

Isoenzymatic variability in wild potatoes PAB
Rocha,Beatriz Helena Gomes; Augustin,Eliane; Silva,João Baptista da; Viégas,Judith.
Two species of wild potato Solanum commersonii, subspecies commersonii and malmeanum, and S. chacoense, subspecies muelleri occur in southern Brazil. Their rusticity and easy adaptation to extreme climatic conditions make them valuable for breeding programs. The objective of this work was to analyze the isoenzymatic variability of 113 clones of wild potato subspecies. They were collected and maintained at Embrapa-Centro de Pesquisa Agropecuária de Clima Temperado, at Pelotas, RS, Brazil. Enzymes involved in energetic (group I) or in peripherical (group II) metabolism constituted the material used. Polyacrylamide horizontal gel electrophoresis was used to analyze peroxidase, aspartate transaminase, phosphoglucomutase and isocitrate dehydrogenase isoenzymes....

The impact of dengue on liver function as evaluated by aminotransferase levels BJID
Souza,Luiz José de; Nogueira,Rita Maria Ribeiro; Soares,Leandro Cordeiro; Soares,Carlos Eduardo Cordeiro; Ribas,Bruno Fernandes; Alves,Felipe Pinto; Vieira,Fabíola Rodrigues; Pessanha,Felipe Eulálio Baldi.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the impact of dengue virus infection on liver function by measuring aminotransferase in blood samples from patients serologically diagnosed by according to two MAC-ELISA protocols. Degrees of liver damage were classified according to aminotransferase levels: grade A - normal enzyme levels; grade B - increased levels of at least one of the enzymes; grade C - increased, with at least one of the enzymes being at levels higher than three times the upper reference values; grade D - acute hepatitis, with aminotransferase levels at least ten times their normal values. Of the 169 serologically confirmed cases of dengue at the dengue referral center in Campos dos Goytacazes in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 65.1%...
