A new species of Anchoviella Fowler, 1911 (Clupeiformes: Engraulidae) from the Amazon basin, Brazil Neotropical Ichthyology

Anchoviella juruasanga is described from the drainages of rios Negro, Madeira, Tapajós, Trombetas, Tocantins, and Jari, in the Amazon basin, Brazil. The new species is distinguished from its congeners by having a short upper jaw, with its posterior tip extending between the verticals through anterior and posterior margins of the pupil (vs. posterior tip of upper jaw extending beyond the vertical through posterior margin of the pupil). Anchoviella juruasanga is also distinct from other strictly freshwater Amazonian species of the genus by the distance from tip of snout to posterior end of upper jaw between 8 and 11% in standard length (vs. 14% or more in A. alleni, A. carrikeri, A. guianensis, and A. jamesi). Compréhension des différences de distribution spatiale des anchois et de leurs œufs ArchiMer

La campagne PELGAS participe à la gestion du stock d’anchois du Golfe de Gascogne, en réalisant une évaluation directe à la mer de la biomasse d’anchois. Pour déterminer la biomasse totale, des appareils acoustiques envoyant des ultra-sons dans l’eau pour détecter les bancs de poisson sont utilisés. Ensuite des pêches sont effectuées sur les zones détectées pour déterminer la composition des bancs (espèces, poids, longueurs…). En parallèle, les oeufs d’anchois sont comptés. A partir des données récoltées de 2000 à 2015, j’ai pu réaliser des cartes de distribution spatiale des anchois et de leurs oeufs, ainsi que des analyses statistiques afin de comprendre les différences de distribution entre les deux. Anchovies are members of the Engraulidae family, characterized to present coastal pelagic habits, concentrating in large schoolings distributed among the continental shelf and semi-closed environment, like bays, where they are target of heavy fisheries. The present study aims to describe spatial and temporal distribution of Cetengraulis edentulous (Cuvier, 1828) in the Sepetiba bay (22º54'-23º04'S, 43º34'-44º10'W) and to assess influences of environmental variables on fish occurrence. A monthly sampling programme was carried out between October 1998 and September 1999, to take both, fish and environmental information on temperature, salinity and depth. Increasing abundance of non-commercial sprats and decreasing biomass and landings of commercial anchovies and sardines justify the need to study the feeding ecology and trophic niche overlap of these planktivorous species in the Gulf of Lions. Their diet has been investigated on the basis of stomach content and stable isotope analyses in 2011 and 2012 according to different depths and regions in the study area. The main prey were Corycaeidae copepods, Clauso/Paracalanus, Euterpina acutifrons and Microsetella, for sprats and small copepods, such as Microsetella, Oncaea and Corycaeidae, for anchovies and sardines.
