| As abelhas possuem grande importância econômica e ecológica, em vista de sua dependência dos recursos florais como o pólen e o néctar (principais fontes de proteínas e energia, respectivamente), representando cerca de 40 a 90% dos agentes polinizadores de fanerógamas em diversos ecossistemas. No presente trabalho, foi realizado o inventário apícola do Parque Municipal da Cachoeirinha (Iporá, GO). Foram realizadas 58 horas de coleta no total, realizadas nos meses de novembro/dezembro de 2004 e março e maio de 2005. Foi coletado um total de 933 indivíduos, distribuídos em uma família, 16 tribos, 33 gêneros e 62 espécies. A tribo Meliponini foi a mais abundante em número de indivíduos e espécies. | Collection data of Euglossinae males from Parque Estadual do Rio Doce (PERD) and Viçosa, both areas with remnants of Atlantic Rain Forest (Mata Atlântica) in Minas Gerais state, Brazil are presented. Comparisons made among three fragments with different sizes and states of disturbance from Viçosa showed differences in abundance of most common species and apparently, Eulaema nigrita Lepeletir, 1841 can be an useful indicator of disturbed sites. | De julho/1992 a junho/1993 foram feitas coletas em intervalos de ,28 a 30 dias em uma .área de vegetação secundária com 1.650m2, próxima ao rio Pepital, em Alcântara - MA, com o objetivo de conhecer a fauna apícola e suas relações com a flora local. Foram coletados sobre flores 1.076 indivíduos (1.073 fêmeas e 03 machos), pertencentes a 20 espécies e 11 gêneros da família Apidae. Trigona fulviventrís(42,2%), Apis mellifera(24,5%), Trigona pollens(12,5%), Trigona fuscipennis(10,0%), Tetragona clavipes(2,9%) e Melipona puncticollis(2,3%) foram as espécies mais abundantes. | Malformed antennae of Apis mellifera light ocelli drones were drawn, dissected and mounted permanently on slides containing Canada balsam, in order to count the olfactory discs present in each segment, in comparison with the number of those structures in normal antennae of their brothers. Some drones presented morphological abnormalities in a single segment of the right or left antenna, but others had two or more malformed segments in a same antenna. Drones with malformations in both antennae were also observed. The 4th and 5th flagellum segments were the most frequently affected. | Highly eusocial bees (Hymenoptera, Apidae) flower visitors in a continental sand dune ecosystem from the medium São Francisco River, Bahia, Brazil. A community of highly eusocial bees in sand dunes, covered with caatinga vegetation, in the medium São Francisco River, Bahia (10º47' 37"S and 42º49' 25"W) was studied. The local climate is semi arid and hot, with mean temperature of 25.7 ºC and annual precipitation of 653.8 mm. Censuses took place every two months, from February to December of 2000. | ABSTRACT A review of bee species used as hosts of mutillid wasps in the Neotropical region is presented. Three new confirmed host records are provided for the mutillid species Hoplomutilla biplagiata Mickel, 1939, Pappognatha limes Mickel, 1939, and Tallium aracati Casal, 1962. Two potential host records are provided for Euspinolia rufula Mickel, 1938 and Lophomutilla inca Fritz and Pagliano, 1993. Additionally, Mutilla hoplitiformis Strand, 1909, is transferred to the genus Darditilla. Correlations between host nesting habits and female mutillid morphology are discussed. Lastly, all known confirmed and potential host records in the Neotropical region are compiled. |

| A fisionomia vegetal mais representativa do país, depois da floresta amazônica, é o cerrado, que ocupa atualmente dois milhões de km² do território brasileiro. Este trabalho teve como objetivo determinar as características físico-químicas de amostras de mel produzidas por Apis mellifera em um fragmento de cerrado, localizado em Itirapina, SP (22°14'S e 47°49'W). As amostras foram coletadas mensalmente, em cinco colméias, entre fevereiro e outubro de 2005 e as características avaliadas foram: açúcares redutores, redutores totais, sacarose, umidade, hidroximetilfurfural (HMF), cor, condutividade elétrica, pH, acidez, índice de formol, teor de cinzas, proteínas e viscosidade, além da análise polínica. | Bee fauna and associated flora from a grassland site in Brazil, surveyed 40 and 20 years ago, were newly surveyed with comparable methodology to evaluate changes in the bee fauna of this site, considering that human population and urbanization has exponentially increased in the last 40 years. In general, bee species richness has declined in 22%, as well as their abundance. | ABSTRACT A detailed protocol for chemical clearing of bee specimens is presented. Dry specimens as well as those preserved in liquid media can be cleared using this protocol. The procedure consists of a combined use of alkaline solution (KOH or NaOH) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), followed by the boiling of the cleared specimens in 60–70% EtOH. Clearing is particularly useful for internal skeletal morphological research.
