El arroz es uno de los alimentos con mayor demanda en el mercado actual debido al gran número de personas que lo consumen. Una alternativa para dar solución a la aparición de enfermedades de origen fúngico es la utilización de bacterias como control biológico de hongos fitopatógenos. Dentro de estos microorganismos, los aislamientos del género Bacillus han sido uno de los más empleados en el control biológico, debido a que estos tienen la capacidad de producir una amplia diversidad de metabolitos con actividad antifúngica. ABSTRACT: Probiotics are a novel alternative to antibiotics as growth factors. Previously, our group isolated, selected and tested in vivo, eight autochthonous strains. They showed no significant effects when administered individually. However, the best doses, stages and ways of administration were combined in a multi strain formula. Três experimentos foram conduzidos com o objetivo de avaliar o efeito da utilização de probióticos na dieta de frangos de corte sobre as características da cama reutilizada e das lesões de peito, joelho e coxim plantar. Foram utilizados em cada experimento 800 pintos machos de um dia, da linhagem comercial Ross, alojados em 20 boxes, em densidade populacional de 10 aves/m². O delineamento foi inteiramente casualizado e os tratamentos distribuídos em esquema fatorial 2 × 2 (cama nova ou reutilizada x rações com ou sem probiótico). This work presents some results on the use of microbes from the genus Bacillus for uptake of cadmium, zinc, copper and lead ions. Maximum copper bioaccumulations were 5.6 mol/g biomass for B. sphaericus, 5.9 mol/g biomass for B. cereus and B. subtilis, and 6.4 mol/g biomass for Bacillus sp. Pyrene, a high molecular weight polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH), is a priority pollutant present in soil contaminated with crude oil, coal-tar and complex PAHs. Bacterial consortium CON-3 developed from crude oil contaminated soil of Patiala, Punjab (India) cometabolized 50 µg ml-1 pyrene in the presence of glucose (0.5 %; w/v) at 30 °C, as determined by reverse-phase high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Bacillus sp. PK-12, Bacillus sp. PK-13 and Bacillus sp. Evolution of marine oil pollution made the study of microbial degradation a current matter of importance. The present work dealt with preliminary assays in vitro of a systematic study of petroleum degrading Bacillus species. Degradation of petrol during the different experimentations was followed with infrared analyses. Progressive elimination of alcanes and isoalcanes was controlled by gas- chromatography. Out of the 37 strains of Bacillus subtilis, B_. polymyxa, B. megaterium and Sporosar- cina tested, 10 could grow with petrol as unique source of carbon. Un total de 129 aislamientos bacterianos obtenidos de la micósfera de esclerocios de Claviceps gigantea se evaluaron in vitro para determinar su capacidad de inhibir el crecimiento de Fusarium graminearum, F. subglutinans y F. verticillioides patógenos a maíz. Abstract Adhirasam is a cereal based, doughnut shaped, deep fried dessert consumed in the southern regions of India. The dough used to prepare adhirasam is fermented and contains rice flour and jaggery. The aim of the present study was to characterize the cultivable bacteria associated with this fermented dough and to identify a suitable starter culture for the production of quality adhirasam.
