Az állattenyésztési ágazatok kilátásai nem biztatóak a tartósan magas takarmányárak, a vertikálisan kevésbé szervezett, a termékpálya szakaszai közötti laza kapcsolat miatt, ami a legfontosabb felvevőpiacok szervezetlenségére is visszavezethető. A magyarországi állattartók érdemben nem képesek befolyásolni sem a világpiacon, sem az Európai Unió piacán zajló folyamatokat, így kénytelenek a réspiacokat kitöltve alkalmazkodni. Különböző modellváltozataink szerint a szarvasmarha-állomány 680-731 ezer egyed, a tejelőtehén-állomány 266-269 ezer egyed között alakulhat 2013-ban. A Partial Equilibrium Model of the Beef and Dairy Sector in Italy Under Imperfect Competition AgEcon

In this paper we present a partial equilibrium model for the bovine sector (beef and dairy) in Italy, which can be used for simulation and forecasting. The structure of the model follows the vertical chain of the beef and dairy sector, allowing trade of both agricultural raw materials and final products. Since the processing and retailing stage is characterised by an imperfectly competitive structure, the model accounts for market power in modelling the price transmission mechanism. This provides further insights on the vertical transmission of shocks, both at the final level (i.e. the BSE crisis) and at the farm level (i.e. agricultural policy reform).

Losses in mineral supplementation of grazing cattle is likely to occur in unsheltered troughs, mainly throughout the rainy season both by lixiviation and hardening. The aim was to evaluate supplement consumption, lixiviation due to precipitation, and hardening behavior comparing a regular powder mineral supplement (REG) and an agglomerated powder mineral supplement (AGL) provided to grazing heifers in the rainy season. The study was carried out between December 21th 2016 and April 20th 2017, in Campo Grande, MS, Brazil.

An Economic Performance Analysis of the Beef Cow-herd Enterprise Using a Stochastic Frontier Function AgEcon

Standardized Performance Analysis (SPA) data from Texas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico were used to examine the economic performance of beef cow herd operations in the Southern Plains region by measuring their technical efficiency index. Factors that make significant impacts on the production are herd size, machinery investment per breeding cow, and rainfall. Little technical inefficiency among the Southern beef cattle operations that participated in the SPA data was found.

Analysis of consumer habits and attitudes on the Hungarian beef and rabbit market AgEcon

As a consortium partner the authors took part in a research project aiming at the development of high added value, healthy and environment friendly animal products. From among the products developed by the consortium (rabbit meat, omega3-fatty acid enriched beef, goose liver from non forcible feeding, selenium-, vitamin-E and natural color enriched eggs) the present study describes the results concerning beef and rabbit meat. The given products are chosen because they are produced in and exported from Hungary in considerable quantities and their competitiveness can be further improved. Assessing Consumer Preferences for Country-of-Origin Labeling AgEcon

In this paper, we assess consumer willingness to pay for a mandatory country-of-origin labeling (COOL) program applied to beef ribeye steaks, chicken breasts, and pork chops, all labeled as “Certified U.S.” products. A consumer survey was mailed in spring and early summer 2003 to households in the continental United States. Results indicate that consumers are in general very concerned about food safety issues, viewing U.S. meats as the safest among the selection of countries considered. Nevertheless, consumer willingness to pay for Certified U.S. products is relatively small, although above the expected implementation costs associated with a mandatory labeling program. Assessing consumer preferences for quality and safety attributes of food in the absence of official standards: the case of beef in Ethiopia AgEcon

Conjoint analysis was applied to asses the part worth of beef quality and safety attributes using a cross sectional data from a stratified sample of 300 households in Addis Ababa city collected in June 2007. Due to the absence of official standards for quality and safety in the domestic market for beef, information on consumer perception on quality and safety attributes were derived from a rapid appraisal. These were then used for defining product profiles in the detailed survey. Assessing the Value of Coordinated Sire Genetics in a Synchronized AI Program AgEcon

Synchronized artificial insemination was used to inseminate cows using different types of sire genetics, including low-accuracy, calving-ease, and high-accuracy. These three calf sire groups were compared to calves born to cows bred using natural service. We found substantial production efficiency grains, carcass merit improvement, and economic value to calves born to cows following a synchronized artificial insemination program with high-accuracy semen included. The economic advantage to the high-accuracy calf sire group was computed to be in the neighborhood of $40 to $80/head, relative to the natural service calf sire group.

The purpose of this paper is to identify the attributes of beef that affect the buying decisions of the consumers of Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. A descriptive survey was conducted with quantitative variables, with a total of 400 interviews at the point of retail purchase, using structured questionnaires with multiple-choice questions only. It was possible to verify that the attributes considered most important by the consumers regarding the beef were: hygiene, smell, appearance, additive-free, healthy appearance, freshness, flavor, tenderness, color, and nutritional value. Attributes Preferred and Premiums Offered for Naturally Produced Beef Cattle AgEcon

A growing number of beef cattle producers in the US are using limited information to determine whether or not it would be economical for them to grow naturally produced cattle. The objective was to discover the attributes that marketing companies prefer for the naturally produced cattle they purchase, and to elicit the price premiums being offered for cattle that possess these attributes. Results of a phone survey of companies that purchase natural cattle show that 27 out of 32 companies report their willingness to pay a premium of $5.95/cwt for cattle that have never received antibiotics, ionophores, hormones or animal by-products.

The more a product represents values considered important to individuals, the greater the chance of being chosen for consumption.
