Control of airborne microbes in a poultry setting using Dioxy MP 14 Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Avic.

In this study, Dioxy MP 14, a locally developed form of chlorine dioxide, was tested in a commercial chicken pen to determine its effectiveness as an airborne environmental sanitizing agent. The biocide was introduced via an overhead misting system with a variable dosing pump. The extent of airborne microbial control was determined with settle plates. Performance and mortality rate of the chickens in the experimental pen was compared to that in the control pen. Results show a decrease in airborne microbial load and a significantly higher egg productivity rate at a 5% level in the treated pen. However, no significant difference in mortality rates between the two pens was observed.

Evaluation of the antifungal activity by plant extracts against Colletotrichum gloeosporioides Penz Ciência e Agrotecnologia

Aiming to develop more efficient and environmental friendly methods than those available to control Colletotrichum gloeosporioides Penz, which causes blister spot in coffee trees, a search for plants able to produce substances active against such pathogen was carried out. Thus, extracts of 48 plant species, collected at Alto Rio Grande region, in Minas Gerais, were prepared and submitted to in vitro assays with that fungus. The best results were obtained with the extracts prepared from Digitalis lanata Ehrh, Origanum manjorona L., Plantago lanceolata Hook. and Stevia rebaudiana (Bertoni) Bertoni, which inhibited C. gloeosporioides spores germination. Novel antiviral activity of dialdehyde starch Electron. J. Biotechnol.

A significant effort worldwide is being directed toward development of novel biocides against drug-resistant bacterial and viruses because of the significant potential human infection risks in the general population. We report here the discovery of a strong antiviral biocide, dialdheyde starch (DAS). Antiviral tests were carried out against three non-envelop viruses, including two bacterial viruses MS2 and PRD1, and one human virus Poliovirus. Dialdehyde starch aqueous suspensions were effective biocides against these three test viruses in a 1 hr exposure test. The antiviral activity was significantly enhanced in a four-hour exposure test, with maximum seven orders of magnitude reductions against MS2 and PRD1, and four-order reduction against Poliovirus....

L'objectif du projet OBSLAG Pesticides est de dresser un état des lieux de la problématique des pesticides dans les lagunes Méditerranéennes au regard du risque (individuel et/ou conjoint) qu'ils occasionnent pour ces écosystèmes. L'exposition des lagunes aux pesticides a été caractérisée sur la base d'un suivi de 12 points (10 MET), échantillonnés au cours de 6 campagnes entre sept. 2017 et juil. 2019. 72 matières actives et métabolites d'intérêt pour les lagunes ont été recherchés à l'aide d'échantillonneurs intégratifs passifs (POCIS) et d'échantillons d'eau ponctuels. Recently, a significant amount of attention has been directed toward development of novel classes of biocides because of the potential for microbial contamination and infection risks to military personnel and in the general population. We have recently discovered a new and unexpected class of powerful biocides based upon compounds derived through simple chemistry from silicone intermediates, "silicon alcohols" called, silanols. One example is trialkylsilanols, R3SiOH. Toxicity of neem's oil, a potential biocide against the invasive mussel Limnoperna fortunei (Dunker 1857) Anais da ABC (AABC)

The golden mussel Limnoperna fortunei (Dunker 1857) is one of the most distributed Nuisance Invasive Species (NIS) in South America, and a threat of great concern for the industry of the area. In this study, we carried out toxicity tests made with a Neem's oil solution with L. fortunei larvae and benthonic adults (7, 13 and 19 ± 1 mm). Tests with non-target species (Daphnia magna, Lactuca sativa and Cnesterodon decemmculatus) were also made with the aim to evaluate the potential toxicity of the Neem's solution in the environment. The LC100 of Neem's solution obtained for larvae was 500 µl/L, a value much higher than the one obtained for D. magna and C. decemmaculatus. Resumo: A Artrite-Encefalite Caprina (CAE) é uma enfermidade incurável que afeta caprinos, causando uma infeção multissistêmica e crônica, que ocasiona grandes perdas econômicas. Clinicamente, os animais são acometidos com mastite, artrite, emagrecimento progressivo, pneumonia e problemas neurológicos.
