Lethal effects of a Mexican Beauveria bassiana (Balsamo) strain against Meccus pallidipennis (Stal) BJM

The entomopathogenic fungus Beauveria bassiana (Balsamo 1835) Vuillemin is an effective alternative control agent against some agricultural pests and biological vectors of important diseases such as Chagas disease. In this work we studied an isolate of Beauveria bassiana from of the town of San Antonio Rayón, Puebla, Mexico and its entomopathogenic effects on Meccus pallidipennis (Stal 1872). Phylogenetic analysis using molecular comparison of the ITS and EF1α genes, showed that the resulting cladogram places the BUAP 04 strain with a relationship closer to the AFAO 9-6 strain, within the diversity of the B. bassiana sensu lato group. ABSTRACT Trichogramma pretiosum Riley, 1879 (Hymenoptera: Trichogrammatidae) is an egg parasitoid of lepidopteran pests in corn, Zea mays L. (Poaceae), in Brazil. Chemical products used in agriculture can be toxic to this biocontrol agent. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the longevity, parasitism and emergence of T. pretiosum parasitizing Mediterranean flour moth, Anagasta kuehniella Zeller, 1879 (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae), eggs treated with herbicide solutions with the active ingredients (chemical group) atrazine (triazines), paraquat dichloride (bipyridylium) and nicosulfuron (sulfonylurea). Thermobacteriology of Bacillus thuringiensis after conventional drying. Repositório Alice

Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) can be produced both by submerged or solid state fermentation, but the recovery of the bioinsecticide presents some problems, mainly during the drying process. This paper presents the thermobacteriological behavior of Bt spores after conventional drying. The bioinsecticide was obtained by submerged fermentation and the broth was centrifuged using a laboratory sharples centrifuge. Drying process used hot air at 50oC, 70oC and 90oC at a velocity of 4,02 m/s. The test material was prepared using 3% active principle with 50% humidity. It was mixed with clay and humidified with a 5% lactose solution. Acrilic boxes (5cm x 10cm x 2cm) containing the material were submitted to the drying process during 22.5h.
