Actual and potential heterotrophicneutrogen fixation and detrification rates of oryza glumaepatula Steud in an amazonian lake BJB
ENRICH-PRAST,A.; ESTEVES,F. A.; BIESBOER,D. D..
Estimates of the rates of heterotrophic nitrogen fixation (HNF) and denitrification by acetylene reduction and acetylene inhibition, respectively, were determined for the roots and culms of wild rice, Oryza glumaepatula, in Lake Batata, a lake severely impacted by the dumping of bauxite tailings into the lake basin. Two stations were established in different parts of the lake: one in a natural area and other in an impacted area of the lake. Plant assays were performed during the principle hydroperiods of dry (December) and flood (July) to determine both: a) Actual rates of HNF and denitrification, and b) potential rates of HNF after amending with glucose potential rates of denitrification after amending with glucose, glucose + nitrate, or nitrate alone....

Agronomic efficiency of Bradyrhizobium in peanut under different environments in Brazilian Northeast. Repositório Alice
SIZENANDO, C. I. T.; RAMOS, J. P. C.; FERNANDES JUNIOR, P. I.; LIMA, L. M. de; FREIRE, R. M. M.; SANTOS, R. C. dos.
Several legumes have natural ability to associate with nitrogen - fixing bacteria known as rhizobia. The efficiency of this association depends on the plant and bacterial genotype and the edaphoclimatic conditions. Peanut is a tropical legume able to associate with a wide range of rhizobia and the selection of efficient bacteria is important to increase the nitrogen fixation in this crop. In order to investigate the agronomic efficiency of two Bradyrhizobiumstrains, two peanut genotypes were used in field trails carried out in three environments located at Brazilian Northeast. The genotypes (BR1 and L7 Bege) were submitted to rhizobial inoculation (SEMIA 6144 or ESA 123, both Bradyrhizobium strains, and chemical nitrogen fertilization in randomized block...

Alfalfa yield and quality as function of nitrogen fertilization and symbiosis with Sinorhizobium meliloti Scientia Agricola
Oliveira,Wladecir Salles de; Oliveira,Patrícia Perondi Anchão; Corsi,Moacyr; Duarte,Fábio Rodrigo Sanches; Tsai,Siu Mui.
The efficiency of the symbiotic process between alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) and Sinorhizobium meliloti can be drastically affected by soil nitrogen. This research evaluates how mineral fertilization affects the contribution of symbiosis to the yield and quality of alfalfa in two experiments under controlled conditions, and a third one in the field. Under controlled conditions, positive effect of nitrogen fertilizer was observed, whereas, in the field, negative effect of the mineral nitrogen (450 kg ha-1 year-1) on the symbiotic process was observed, with reduction of nodulation and nitrogenase activity. However, there was no effect on yield, total nitrogen concentration, crude protein, non-protein nitrogen and digestibility in relation to the treatment...

FREITAS, A. D. S. de; BORGES, W. L.; ANDRADE, M. M. de M.; SAMPAIO, E. V. de S. B.; SANTOS, C. E. de R. e S.; PASSOS, S. R.; XAVIER, G. R.; MULATO, B. M.; LYRA, M. do C. C. P. de.
The Brazilian Northeastern dry forest (Caatinga) is one of the diversification centers of Mimosa species. We determined the characteristics of native rhizobia isolates from nodules of Mimosa tenuiflora and Mimosa paraibana grown in pots with soils collected under Caatinga vegetation and compared the restriction ribosomal DNA profiles of the isolates with those of 16 reference strains. All plants formed abundant indeterminate nodules and all nodule isolates formed fast growing colonies. No colony altered the medium to an alkaline reaction and most of them produced low or medium amounts of extracellular polysaccharides. White and creamy colonies predominated among the isolates but orange and green colonies were present. Differences among the isolates from...

ABSTRACT Brazil nut is a very important nontimber forest product in the Amazon region. Propagation of this tree still represents a challenge due to slow and uneven seed germination. In this context, plant growth-promoting bacteria can facilitate the process of propagation. The aims of this study were to isolate and characterize endophytic bacteria from the roots of Brazil nut trees in native terra firme forest and cultivation areas in northern Brazil, and to identify mechanisms by which bacteria act in plant growth promotion. Overall, 90 bacterial isolates were obtained from the roots of Brazil nut trees in monoculture, agroforestry and native forest areas by using different semisolid media. The isolates were characterized by sequencing the 16S rRNA gene....
