SILVA,RAQUEL B.; SILVA-JÚNIOR,EDVALDO V.; RODRIGUES,LAÍS C.; ANDRADE,LAISE H.C.; SILVA,SUZENE I. DA; HARAND,WOLFGANG; OLIVEIRA,ANTONIO F.M..
In this study, pulp and kernel of fruits from six Arecaceae species were subjected to proximate analysis, fatty acid composition and total carotenoid content analysis. The species with the highest carbohydrate, lipid and protein values were Ptychosperma macarthurii(70.1 g/100 g in the kernel), Syagrus cearensis(40.6 g/100 g in the kernel), andS. coronata(20.6 g/100 g in the pulp). The ash content ranged from 0.61 to 7.51 g/100 g. Lauric, palmitic, and oleic acids were the major fatty acids identified. The total carotenoid contents and retinol activity equivalents were highest in the Pinanga kuhlii (180.3 µg/g) andAcrocomia intumescens (138.0 µg/g) pulp oils. Retinol activity equivalents varied between the investigated species (456 to 1515 μg RAE/100 g)....

A Global Model for Agriculture and Bioenergy: Application to Biofuel and Food Security in Peru and Tanzania AgEcon
Elbehri, Aziz; McDougall, Robert; Horridge, Mark.
This paper describes a global model for agriculture and bioenergy (GLOMAB) that incorporates biomass, biofuels and bioelectricity sectors into the GTAP-Energy model by expanding the global GTAP database, production and consumption structures. Biofuels are separated between first- generation (sugar ethanol, starch ethanol) and second- generation (cellulosic ethanol) biofuels and associated biomass feedstocks (maize, sugar cane, crop residues, woody biomass). Beside biofuels, the model also incorporates bioelectricity (as separate form conventional electricity) which competes for the same biomass feedstocks with cellulosic ethanol sector (agricultural residues, woody biomass). With this broad-based representation of the bioenergy system likely to prevail...

A megújuló energiaforrások szerepe és hatásai a hazai agrárgazdaságban AgEcon
Magda, Robert.
A fosszilis tüzelőanyagok korlátaiból adódóan új...

A mezőgazdaságban keletkező biomassza energetikai hasznosításának agrárgazdasági megközelítése AgEcon
Molnar, Andras.
------------------------------------------- In the absence of exchange in the market, researchers into economic aspects of farming place a high emphasis on quantifying externalities to the maximum extent possible....

A novel method to optimize culture conditions for biomass and sporulation of the entomopathogenic fungus Beauveria Bassiana IBC1201 BJM
Gao,Li.
Biomass yields and sporulation of Beauveria bassiana was concerned on culture conditions, environmental factors and cultivation method. We optimized the best culture conditions for biomass yields of B. bassiana IBC1201 with the novel "two-stage" cultivation method as well as orthogonal matrix method. Firstly, we cultured spore suspension on the basal medium (sucrose 19.00 g, soy peptone 4.06 g, K2HPO4 1.00 g, KCl 0.50 g, MgSO4 0.50 g, FeSO4 0.10 g and 17.00 g Bactor) for the first stage culture of 4 days under room condition. Then, we transferred them to another defined medium (Cellobiose 9.52 g, urea 1.70 g, ZnSO4•7H2O 0.05 g/L, MnSO4•H2O 0.005 g/L, CaCl2 1.00 g/L, CuSO4•5H2O 0.05 g/L and 17.00 g Bactor) for more 4 days cultivation with the environmental...

A seasonally varying biotope at Signy Island, Antarctic: implications for meiofaunal structure OMA
Vanhove, S.; Beghyn, M.; Van Gansbeke, D.; Bullough, L.W.; Vincx, M..
Under the typical high-latitude conditions of temperature, productivity and settlement of chlorophyll and phaeophytin to the sediment, many benthic organisms in the Antarctic show strong seasonal variation. Although meiofauna comprise an important component of the southpolar benthic ecosystem, our knowledge of them is limited. The metazoan meiofauna and the surrounding sediments were studied fortnightly for 18 mo in a shallow bay at Signy Island (Factory Cove, South Orkneys, Antarctica) to test whether and how the temporal variability of the environment influenced meiobenthos dynamics. By examination of the distribution of the abundance and biomass of the total community, the density of higher taxonomic groups, and of individual dominant nematode genera...

Abondonce relative et estimation de la biomasse des petits pelagiques des eaux tunisiennes OceanDocs
Hattour, A.; Ben Abdallah, L.; Guennegan, Y..
Within the frame of the National Program (PNM), 'Assessment of Marine Tunisian Resources' (1996-1999), two prospecting surveys on small pelagic fishes, have been led in narrow collaboration with French Institute IFREMER. Their objectives were to specify the relative fishes abundance, their spatial-temporal variability but also to quantify the maximum sustainable yield (MSY) of this resource. A third important goal was to familiarize a Tunisian scientist team, with numerical methods and data processing used during the cruises (reading of echograms, treatments of data, etc.) in stocks assessment. It is known that the indirect stocks assessment methods of small pelagic species is not reliable, reason for which we opted to apply echo - integration techniques....

Above and Belowground Biomass Characteristics of Rhizoma Peanut Entries and Their Relationship with Soil C and N. Repositório Alice
SILVA, L. S.; SOLLENBERGER, L. E.; COOLEY, K. D.; KOHMANN, M. M.; ARYAL, P.; PEDREIRA, B. C. e; PEDROSO, G. B.; SILVEIRA, M. L.; DUBEUX JÚNIOR, J. C. B..
In forage systems, soil C and N are affected by many factors including above- and belowground biomass, root exudation, defoliation management, and tissue turnover dynamics. There is need to understand the main drivers of soil C and N accumulation under perennial forages, especially those factors associated with differences in growth and canopy characteristics. The objective was to determine soil C and N status and their relationship with above- and belowground characteristics of six rhizoma peanut (RP, Arachis glabrata) entries. Treatments were Apalachee, Chico, Ecoturf, Ona33, Peace, and Tito RP arranged in four replicates of a randomized complete block design. Stands were planted in 2010 and harvested twice per year after establishment. The area was...

Acoustic surveys on the southern blue whiting (Micromesistius australis). OceanDocs
Madirolas, A..
Two joint Argentine-British acoustic surveys specifically targeted on the southern blue whiting (Micromesistius australis) were carried out during September 1994 and 1995. The surveys confirmed the existence of a spawning concentration area located south from San Carlos Strait, in waters south of Malvinas Islands, ASW. The obtained point estimates of blue whiting abundance were 84801 t for the 1994 survey and 140953 t for the 1995 survey. The surveys also provided information on the school structure and behavior as well as some clues about the complex migration pattern of the species.

Acoustical estimation of the Antarctic krill swarms spatial distribution and biomass IBSS Repository
Tokarev, Yu. N.; Vasilenko, V. I.; Zhuk, V. F.; Sokolov, V. G.; Slipetsky, D. Ya..
The method of acoustic express-evaluation of the krill (Euphausia superba Dana) population spatial structure and determination of its accumulations biomass, with 80 kHz echosounding frequencies has been worked out during the 7-th Ukrainian Antarctic expedition. The method error does not exceed 10 %, which permits to recommend it for usage under the Antarctic krill fishery conditions. The principal possibility to acoustically express-evaluate chorological structure of the Antarctic krill population has been shown. Formation by krill of dense accumulations of different form, elongated for 6 miles, appeared to be an expressed feature of krill behaviour during observations. The school type in krill distribution was observed as well. Parallel to this the...

Agricultural Impacts of Biofuels Production AgEcon
Walsh, Marie E.; Torre Ugarte, Daniel de la; English, Burton C.; Jensen, Kimberly L.; Hellwinckel, Chad M.; Menard, R. Jamey; Nelson, Richard G..
Analysis of the potential to supply 25% of projected 2025 U.S. transportation fuels indicates sufficient biomass resources are available to meet increased demand while simultaneously meeting food, feed, and export needs. Corn and soybeans continue to be important feedstocks for ethanol and biodiesel production, but cellulose feedstocks (agricultural crop residues, energy crops such as switchgrass, and forestry residues) will play a major role. Farm income increases, mostly because of higher crop prices. Increased crop prices increase the cost of producing biofuels.

Agrometeorological Indicators based on Satellite Imagery in Western Bahia, Brazil. Repositório Alice
LEIVAS, J. F.; TEIXEIRA, A. H. DE C.; TAKEMURA, C. M.; GARCON, E. A. M..
The western region of Bahia stands out for its large-scale agricultural activity, which uses advanced technology and produces high yields of soybeans, corn and cotton, making it the largest grain producer in Northeast Brazil. The aim of this study is to apply the SAFER algorithm to biophysical indicators, in order to analyze the dynamics of natural vegetation and irrigated crops throughout the crop cycle. The model requires data from meteorological stations and satellite images for its application. Sixty-nine MODIS satellite images with a 250-m spatial resolution and a 16-day temporal resolution taken from 2016 to 2018 were used. The method was effective as a tool to monitor agricultural crops, and to distinguish the phases and vigor of the crops according...

Agronomic performance of white oats cultivated under fertigation with treated sewage effluent and definition of critical limits of Normalized Difference Vegetation Index Bragantia
Coelho,Anderson Prates; Faria,Rogério Teixeira de; Barbosa,Aline Michelle da Silva; Dalri,Alexandre Barcellos; Rosalen,David Luciano.
ABSTRACT One of the benefits of irrigation with wastewater in agriculture is the reduction in the use of mineral fertilizers and the increase in crop yield. For wastewater application, the use of remote sensing can help to define specific management areas. The aim of this study was to evaluate the yield and the growth of irrigated white oats (Avena sativa L.) with varying treated sewage effluent (TSE) levels. These attributes were then correlated with Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) values obtained at four phenological stages of the crop and used to define critical limits of NDVI. The experiment consisted of five TSE treatments differing in irrigation depths (11, 31, 60, 87, and 100%). Mean NDVI values in the crop were determined with an...
