An inexpensive open-source ultrasonic sensing system for monitoring liquid levels CIGR Journal

 Liquid levels are measured in a variety of agricultural applications, and are often measured manually, which can be time-consuming and labor-intensive.  Rapid advances in electronic technologies have made a variety of inexpensive sensing, monitoring, and control capabilities available.  A monitoring system was developed and evaluated for automatic measurement of liquid levels, and demonstrated by monitoring water levels in evaporation pans used in evaporation studies and irrigation scheduling.  The system is composed of an ultrasonic sensor, a microcontroller-based data logger, and a temperature sensor.  The ultrasonic sensor measures the distance from the sensor to the liquid surface.  Air temperature is measured by the temperature sensor, and is used to...

Xanthomonas axonopodis pathovar citri (Xac) causes bacterial citrus canker, a serious disease of most citrus species. Xanthomonas campestris pv. campestris (Xcc) is the causal agent of black rot disease in cruciferous plants. In Xcc, cell-cell signaling is mediated by diffusible signal factor (DSF). Synthesis of DSF depends on RpfB and RpfF. DSF perception and signal transduction have been suggested to involve a two-component system comprising RpfC and RpfG. ABSTRACT Citrus canker, caused by Xanthomonas citri subsp. citri (Xcc), has an important economic impact on the citrus industry. Extensive information is available about the disease but, nevertheless, the study of plant-pathogen interactions could provide new information in the understanding of citrus canker disease. A new isolate has been identified, Xcc AT, which has a high genetic similarity (> 90 %) to the virulent Xcc T strain based on genetic clustering analyses of the rep-PCR fingerprinting patterns, but it does not produce cankerous lesions in Citrus limon. Species of Diaporthe are considered important plant pathogens, saprobes, and endophytes on a wide range of plant hosts. Several species are well-known on grapevines, either as agents of pre- or post-harvest infections, including Phomopsis cane and leaf spot, cane bleaching, swelling arm and trunk cankers. In this study we explore the occurrence, diversity and pathogenicity of Diaporthe spp. associated with Vitis vinifera in major grape production areas of Europe and Israel, focusing on nurseries and vineyards. Resolving the Diplodia complex on apple and other Rosaceae hosts Naturalis

Diplodia species are known as pathogens on many woody hosts, including fruit trees, worldwide. In this study a collection of Diplodia isolates obtained mostly from apple and other Rosaceae hosts were identified based on morphological characters and DNA sequence data from ITS and EF1-α loci. The results show that the diversity of species associated with twig and branch cankers and fruit rot of apples is larger than previously recognised. Four species were identified, namely D. seriata and D. malorum (which is here reinstated for isolates with D. mutila-like conidia). Diplodia intermedia sp. nov. is closely related to D. seriata, and D. bulgarica sp. nov. is morphologically and phylogenetically distinct from all Diplodia species reported from apples.

A nivel mundial, el intento por controlar la pudrición de la raíz causada por Phytophthora cinnamomi ha tenido un éxito limitado. La identificación de portainjertos resistentes es una opción para que prospere el cultivo de aguacate en condiciones de presión de inóculo con P. cinnamomi. En plantas de aguacate raza Mexicana de 1 a 2 años y en etapa de plántula, responden a la infección por el oomicete P. cinnamomi. Esta respuesta se debe a la variación genética basada en la supervivencia, y a la implicación de la formación de tilosas y depósito de fenoles como mecanismos de defensa histológica, así como la capacidad totipotencial después de la inoculación con el oomicete.
